Automatically insert new layer for masking
What problem do you see this solving?
During edits, I often need to add both linear gradients and more targeted adjustments using brushes. Therefore it happens to me that I forget I already have some adjustments on a layer which are done on a mask and I switch to a different tool do add an additional adjustment and I end up resetting the current mask because I forget to first create a new layer.
My proposal is to add an option in the settings or a key combination (like pressing CTRL while clicking a tool) that automatically creates a new layer whenever a new adjustment tool (brush/linear/radial gradient) is used.
How I would imagine this feature to work per my preference:
1. I start editing by painting a mask with a brush. This already automatically creates a new layer if there was only the background layer. I apply my desired adjustments (e.g increase exposure and adjust WB for that mask).
2. I then add a linear gradient. At this point the application realises that there is some kind of masking already done on that layer and instead of removing that completely, it creates a new layer automatically and applies the gradient on that new layer.
When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?
This happens probably at least a few times per editing session.
Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One?
Ctrl-Z, remember to add a new layer then re-do
Are you happy to be contacted further about this suggestion or request?

Good Suggestion... Long time ago I suggested few options,
- Holding ALT/Opn will create Mask in new layer.
- Default behavior in Preference.
- Popup dialog suggesting to create mask in selected or new layer.
