Import Convert to DNG
Can we add a feature on Import of RAW Files to convert to DNG file format. This would be beneficial for people who would like to save space by not saving RAW files from manufacture and use the space saving DNG format

Sydney Flowers - please use the template provided in this section of the forum for feature requests. (And be sure to explain why you want to use DNG format while you are at it). The developers say it really helps them assess feature requests to have them in the standard format, even though that may see tedious.

What is DNG and why is it supposed to be a good replacement for ARW?
Not to mention how the heck conversion could actually save anything - it takes hours on my machine to generate previews alone during import and I could use that hardware for AAA gaming, as it's not sloppy at all. Conversion to an equivalent but different format might take import time into days and other users could likely see longer times.
It's cheaper to buy space than power/time.

DNG is a sort of "generic" raw file format originally developed by Adobe, I believe. They had a fond hope that everyone would adopt but as we know that didn't happen.
