Monthly product validation difficulty
The requirement for online re-validation of the installed software every 30 days is a pain in the arse. I spend considerable time off grid and if I haven't re-validated within the previous 30 days I am unable to access the software, creating serious backlogs in my work. If I have phone signal I can occasionally hotspot off the phone, but often I don't have phone signal, WiFi or any other internet connection. For $300+ per year I expect access for the duration of my subscription and not to be locked out for weeks at a time until I can get an internet connection.

I wonder whether it is possible for the software to check, when it is on line, what date your licence is valid to, and not check again until that date has passed. I don't know, just wondering.

Ian, what a brilliant idea! Sounds like something one of you might ask Capture One about directly.
I'm on a perpetual license, having upgraded from 22 to 16.3.x. 16.3 takes quite a bit longer to show its splash screen, and I've been assuming it's due to always validating my license or something (this happens on both machines I've activated the software on).
One minor reason I'm perpetual is that I didn't want to worry about Internet connectivity in order to use the app, but if C1's validating every time, it's a problem.

Hi Peter Walsh - Capture One simply needs to register that you had an internet connection within the last 30 days. If you are completely offline for 30 days or more, then there's unfortunately nothing I can suggest and you will have to continue re-validating your license.
What I can suggest is that you make a feature request here and provide us your feedback formally. Anybody else who experiences this as an issue, can also comment and let us know. I've already made the team aware that there should be a request coming in of this nature, so hopefully there is some discussion around it.
I understand how frustrating this might be (it also frustrates me that I cannot provide a solution to this) and I hope that you are able to at least connect to our servers once every 30 days to keep your subscription going.0 -
Abbott Schindler The 30 day check should only apply to subscription licenses. To confirm, you never receive the warning message stating that you've been offline for 30 days, only a delay when starting the application?

Jack, you're right. I don't receive a warning message; only the delay when starting the application. Is there some other 'phone home' interaction C1 does with a server during startup? I've disabled the opening tips/what's new window. Thanks.

How about the option in the Update tab of settings for when it checks whether there is an update? Shown here - mine is on Weekly but you could set it to Never and check manually for updates.

Good thought; thanks. However I've already set it. to never check for updates.

Thanks all. It doesn't appear to be an update check failure thing. The message is definitely about being over 30 days since since it was validated online - I cant remember the specific wording now. Large parts of Australia have no WiFi or phone signal, and even though I may pass in and out of signal at times I may not be photo editing and the problem is to remember to drop whatever else I came to town for and boot up Capture One so it can get it's fix. I'll raise a feature request as suggested, though I don't expect much joy from that. Cheers.

Peter Walsh You'd be surprised. But in all honesty, it seems like it's something that has to be in place to ensure that all subscription keys are valid and paid for.
Though I don't fully understand the logic for checking an annual subscription (you just pay once, so it should just check once year) and I can confirm that you won't run into this with a perpetual license – so it's a good job we offer both and maybe something to consider next time if it becomes a big pain.
