Are you on a Mac or Windows?

If a Mac, have you checked that Capture One has full disc access in System Settings?

OK - I am not sure about Windows, but it's worth checking disk permissions, though I don't know how that works on Windows.

Ian Wilson Okay. I think I have solved the problem. 2 things seems to have been causing the issue. First, the catalog had become locked somehow. Second, the drive I was using was too full to write new data to it causing the error with backups. C1 does seem to want to generate new previews for all my photos but there is no longer an error when doing so. I'm guessing that is also because of the full drive or locked catalog.

OK. Have you managed to unlock the catalog? When it is open it creates a small file called writelock. (Th purpose of it is to prevent the catalog being written to by two users at once.) That is normally deleted when the catalog is closed, but if it doesn't close down tidily that might not happen. With Capture One closed, you shouldn't see a writelock file, but if you do, delete it.

Ian Wilson I did see one in the backup folder before I unlocked the catalog and now I do not so that was definitely playing a roll.
