Capture One Failing To Backup & Generate Previews
Over the last couple days I have had an issue come up with C1 not being able to generate previews or backup my catalog. The weird thing is, almost every photo should already have had it's preview generated as that happens on import. Even for old photos that I have had in the catalog for years at this point, C1 will start generating previews for them (and fail). Shouldn't these already have previews? Previews get saved during the backup process so why can't the newest version of C1 not read those previews? Like I mentioned, it also fails to generate any new previews as well. I get an error saying that a proxy could not be generated. I checked the health of my drives and they are fine so this should not be caused by file corruption.
Whenever I got to make a backup, C1 also fails to do that even if I chance the location to different drives. What the hell is going on and why is this software suddenly so broken that these basic functions do not work? Everything was fine before the new year but now things have gone to shit.

Are you on a Mac or Windows?
If a Mac, have you checked that Capture One has full disc access in System Settings?

Ian Wilson I am on windows. V16.3.3

OK - I am not sure about Windows, but it's worth checking disk permissions, though I don't know how that works on Windows.

Ian Wilson Okay. I think I have solved the problem. 2 things seems to have been causing the issue. First, the catalog had become locked somehow. Second, the drive I was using was too full to write new data to it causing the error with backups. C1 does seem to want to generate new previews for all my photos but there is no longer an error when doing so. I'm guessing that is also because of the full drive or locked catalog.

OK. Have you managed to unlock the catalog? When it is open it creates a small file called writelock. (Th purpose of it is to prevent the catalog being written to by two users at once.) That is normally deleted when the catalog is closed, but if it doesn't close down tidily that might not happen. With Capture One closed, you shouldn't see a writelock file, but if you do, delete it.

Ian Wilson I did see one in the backup folder before I unlocked the catalog and now I do not so that was definitely playing a roll.
