Why not always Defringe?

    I think it depends on the image, and the lens. Some lenses will be more prone to it than others. I suppose (though I am no expert) that any "correction" like that to an image slightly degrades it (non-destructively, of course).

    @Ian that was my first thought: If it's optional, there is probably some kind of a penalty.

    My question started from a few observations:

    1. I almost always forget to use the correction section
    2. With good lenses, I also see some fringing. That caused me to be a bit worried about #1. I saw fringing today with a Nikon 24/1,8G which is a very good lens.
