session without catalog
I've been using C1 for so long I've forgotten how it works :-)
I don't want a "catalog". For years I've been using what used to be called a dummy session - one without a catalog, that just uses my file structure as its library. Now I need to start a new session - and I can't remember how I did this. Yes I Googled on "Capture One dummy session" but couldn't find good information. Is this no longer a thing? If so, how should I create a new Session so it doesn't try to create a Catalog?

What you are referring to is a dummy session. A session has a System Folders tool where you can browse your entire system.

Yes. How do I create this as a "new Session" without a catalog?

On macOS hold down OPT while launching Capture One to bring it in "Recents" mode where you can start a new session. I think on Windows you hold down SHIFT or ALT. If you already have Capture One open then go into the File menu and choose New Session.

I get that, but I thought there was something special I had to do so that C1 wouldn't go ahead and create a catalog for that new session. Maybe not.

Catalogs and Sessions and unrelated. The session will create a Session Database but it does not use that to "index" the files you browse in the System Folders like a catalog.

I'm out of date. Sounds like maybe the whole "dummy session" thing is obsolete and unncessary,
