Deleted Files
I am very new to Capture One, so would appreciate any advice on the recovery of deleted files.
The software I am tranferring from used sidecar files to store edits. The RAW files and the sidecars were backed up using Google Drive. This meant that if I accidently deleted an edited photo, I could easily restore both the RAW and sidecar files so that the edits were reinstated in the software.
In C1, I am using a Catalog and not Sessions, so no sidecar files. I still back up the RAW files to Google Drive, as well as the catalog. In C1, I find that if an edited file is permanently deleted from the disk, while the RAW file can be restored from Google Drive, the edits are lost. I know that I could restore the whole catalog but this could cause corruption of other files edited in the interim.
Is it possible to find a specific file in the catalog backup, that contains the edits of just of the deleted file and which could therefore be restored?
Thanks.

Not easily if at all. Catalogs as you said store everything in the database.
One possible method would be to open a backup as a catalog. They way backups are stored allow you to open them. It shouldn't but it does. Once opened you could copy-apply the adjustments from the backup catalog copy of the image to the current catalog where you have re-imported ("restored") the raw file. If you have multiple variants in the backup, you could export the single original image as an EIP and import it to the current catalog.
I do NOT recommend this path as it could corrupt your backup, BUT it might just work.

Thanks for your response and suggestions Walter.
I think what I am hearing is that it is better to abandon my suggested approach. Instead, I will get into the habit of only emptying the C1 Trash on an occassional basis. I don't take large volumes of photos, so I am normally up to date with my editing. So I guess that if I haven't realised that a file has been incorrectly deleted within a few weeks, I probably never will!!

Hi SFA,
Thanks for your response.
No, I don't manage files directly in Google Drive. Unfortunately, while I would prefer sidecar files, I will not be going down the Sessions route. This is because the extra sub-folders would be totally at odds with the folder structure and naming conventions that I have been using for years. I therefore feel that Sessions would create a bigger problem than the potential problem I was trying to solve!
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I think I just need to be very careful when permanently deleting from the C1 trash.
