How to open a thumbnail

I'm having a memory issue. I have just uploaded photos into a new session. They appear as a page of thumbnails. I select one to edit and click on it to open it. Instead of opening, the image expands inside its original dimensions. What am I doing wrong, or failing to do? Thanks, Dennis

    I just found the answer to my question -- select the button next to "Image Layer" in top, left of screen. Page of thumbnails is replaced by a single image. Sorry to bother you.
