Is it possible to copy layers between variants
Suppose I'm experimenting with an image by creating different variants. I think I like variant #4 and then realise I need to remove some dust spots in the sky, so I create a Cloning Mask Layer. The next day I decide I like Variant #3 the most. Is there a way to copy the Cloning Mask Layer from Variant #4 to Variant #3?

Yes. Select the variant in question, and make sure the one you want to copy from is the primary variant (the one with the thick border in the browser). In the layers panel click the two-headed arrow in the layers and masks tool.
You get a dialog box like this.
Uncheck the layers you don't want to copy - in my case here I'd uncheck the radial mask layer, so that only the heal layer is checked - then click Apply.
(By the way I think that a heal layer rather than a clone layer is likely to be better for dust spots in the sky. A clone may not blend in with the surrounding area of sky so well.)
