Same images across more than one catalog adjustments not in sync

I am a longtime CO user since v8, but I am still struggling with being able to share adjustments applied to images that are in more than one catalog.

I have separate catalogs for categories of images. In my MAIN catalog, I keep my project groups and, depending on the project, I am using images that are housed in other catalogs. This is where I bring individual pieces together with others into a specific project, like books or exhibits, etc.

My problem is, it does not always bring in all the adjustments that exist in the other catalogs when I import them or sync them in the library. I have used the 'load meta' and my adjustment are kept in external files, and replace the existing in the MAIN to be sure I have the most up to date adjustments, but nothing happens, the image does reflect the changes. I regenerate previews and even verify and repairs the catalog, but it does not change anything. I have some times COPY adjustments from one catalog to the other, which a royal pain. But, sometimes, I get all adjustments except under composition (crop, flip, etc). Strange that it does that with no consistency nor pattern.

Please advise any remedies to this problem.
