Are you sure these are JPEG files?

Yes, all jpeg and taken at the same event. You did give me an idea though, to test if it makes a difference if the photos were taken in regular, macro or portrait modes. I copied a few of each photos taken today into a new folder and an odd mix of the photos show up.
I copied the photos from that vacation again to my laptop. This time, instead of 86 I see 101 photos out of 400 plus. This seems completely random.

Do you have View->Global Filters->Always Hide JPG on?

No global filters, checked again. I clean installed the update to 16.5.2 yesterday but the behaviour remains the same. I have On1 Photoraw, Radiant Photo etc, they have no issues seeing all the files in the folders. Let's see if a future update fixes this.

When I was having inexplicable catalogue problems, support got me to create a new account on my PC and run capture one from there to see if the problems persisted.

I ended up creating a new catalogue and importing the problem catalogue into it and that solved my problems. Not using Sessions much. I'd check if a catalogue can see the images.

Thank you for your suggestion. I will experiment over the weekend to see if it solves my problem.

To close out on this topic -  I created a new catalog and tried to import the jpegs from different folders, same behaviour, either Capture One can see partial set of files or none.

I then decided to copy jpegs from a different phone, a Oneplus 12 and Capture one had no issues. With Iqoo 12, my daily driver, it exhibits the behaviour I have been experiencing. For the Iqoo 12 images, I batch processed them with Radiant photo and Capture One could see the newly saved images by Radiant photo.

So it would appear that there is something in the Iqoo 12 files that Capture One doesn't like and it is not even consistent. I'd have thought that the phone writes additional info regarding bokeh etc in Portrait mode images but it is not consistent, e.g. Capture One can see some and not others.

Given that every other program has no issues with the Iqoo 12 jpegs, it may be a corner case with whatever jpeg engine Capture One is using. It is not a big issue for me though as I have other editors to handle the files and given that Iqoo phones sell in very few markets I don't imagine there are many others running into this issue.

Thanks Richard and Walter for trying to help out.

Check your IQOO settings to see what format JPEG it is saving in. Perhaps it is saving in JPEG XL which Capture One may not support.

Just JPEG and DNG (if shooting in the Pro mode) supported
