Capture One Pro seriously needs better optimization.
This is a serious problem because Capture One is poorly optimized, resulting in poor performance with constant freezes and crashes. I’ve been reporting these issues for over a year or two, yet all the problems remain consistent without any fixes or improvements.
These are the issues I’ve been facing so far:
1. Whenever I hold down the arrow key to look through images, Capture One freezes and crashes.
2. During culling, it takes 2–3 seconds to move to the next image.
3. The preview generation speed is slow.
4. Compressed files heavily impact performance.
5. The overall performance is poor and slow.
6. The software crashes randomly without any apparent reason.
Don’t tell me it’s my problem. I’ve already tried everything with the support team, including a clean install of macOS, yet all the issues persist. Besides, Lightroom Classic has none of these problems and performs far better. It’s literally way, way, way faster than Capture One Pro in many ways, including preview generation and navigating through images. For export speed, Lightroom Classic is 2–5 times faster than Capture One Pro, which has been proven multiple times on Art is Right’s YouTube channel.
At this point, I can only conclude that Capture One is poorly optimized. Is this what I get after paying so much money annually, especially since they’re charging more than before? If you think Capture One isn’t slow, why not try Lightroom Classic with the same settings? I’ve already tested this, and I was shocked by how stable Lightroom is. When I tested export speeds, Capture One barely used more than two CPU cores and wasted GPU resources. You can refuse to accept the fact but being slower than LR Classic for 2~4 times one of the a great proof.
On top of that, Capture One’s support is terrible, with no effective solutions. Telling me to change the file language or use uncompressed files is laughable, especially since Lightroom Classic has no such issues. It's just astonishing as LR Classic can perform faster with no problems while I keep having issues on freezes and crashes while being slow. Sometime, they never responded to my request.
Optimizing the software is fundamental, yet Capture One has failed to do so. At this point, it’s too risky to use Capture One as my main software, especially as a digitech, because it randomly freezes and crashes while I’m working. Why can’t they fix this? I have no idea if Capture One is even willing to solve problems instead of keep ignoring users. Now, Capture One didnt even update their software to officially support macOS Sequoia for almost 3 months. Besides, they didnt even answer my feedbacks for adding sort options and batch delete for Favorite folders.
I know that both Phase One and Capture One are heavily messed up after Axcel acquired them especially after 2020 but that's not a good excuse. I only need a software properly optimized with minimum problems. But for now, I'm highly disappointed toward Capture One especially after 2020 with their poor optimizations and they must be ashamed for it.

Is this with a catalogue or a session? If catalogue, how many images do you have in the catalogue?
NB: your post would be easier to read if the text wasn't all in bold.

I have none of your issues on either of my current Macs. I'm currently running C1 v16.3.8.23 on both M2 units running Sonoma and Ventura before that, and just finished testing v16.5 with the same results. I can navigate among images instantaneously with the R/L arrow keys (same was true several versions ago on my 2012 Macs running Mojave), previews draw very quickly (not instantaneously, but really fast), the software crashes only very, very rarely. The only compressed files I read, though, are JPEGs; normally I use CR2, CR3 and TIFF files. I have a large referenced catalog (>55k images) on one machine and a managed catalog on the other. Frankly, my main issues have to do with catalog/metadata management (long standing, and C1 hasn't shown interest in fixing them). But as a day-to-day app, Capture One's run well for me for many years.
Your problem sounds like it may totally have to do with a corrupt catalog and/or previews. Have you selected ALL images and had Capture One rebuild the previews? And have you had Capture One Verify/Repair the catalog? As a last resort, have you tried creating a new catalog and importing the old one into it? That could fix some corruption issues.
Also, just to be sure it's not something in your Mac User Account, have you tried running it from a different account? Many seasoned Mac users I know keep a spare Admin account, free of third party additions, available just for this kind of testing.
It's just interesting that I have none of the issues you mention, nor do any of my acquaintances who are using Capture One (mostly the same version I am, run on macOS Sonoma or Sequoia). While I'm not thrilled with most of the features C1's been adding (I'm a bird/wildlife/nature photographer and rarely shoot any portraits and never shoot in a studio), I'm pretty satisfied with the program overall and don't like seeing users suffer like you are...

What, exactly, was the point of posting here, if you have no intention of responding to the people who reply to you?
