Tethering Capture - Focusing and Live View
I have a new Canon 5D Mark IV and am new to tethering and Capture One (v10 installed). Tethered to 2015 MacBook Pro 15" running High Sierra.
I have gone through several paid tutorials and many YouTube videos on both the Camera and Capture One the past month to learn everything I could before actually hooking everything up. I am guessing at least 100 hours of viewing so far. I think I have enough information to start getting my feet wet inside the interface, but one area I can't seem to find any real good source on is seeing how someone actually does a tethered shoot explaining ALL the workflow in switching between normal and live view capture - when/where/how. I have seen a couple tutorials pointing out where all the palette controls are and even seeing them trigger the camera on occasion, but nothing that really shows me how to properly frame FOCUS and capture a shot?
Playing around for a couple hours tonight, I was able to get everything connected and communicating and the captures were very fast (as hoped), but I found myself really struggling - especially with how focus is best implemented? If I switch to Live View, I see that it opens a secondary interface that has 2 tabs in the upper left - one for live view and the other I guess for camera control (not sure why there are two?). I finally got a couple good shots (in focus) but not really feeling in control. I cannot figure out how you are supposed to focus properly in Live View? At first I thought when I switched to Live View in the app, that it would also light up the live view screen on the back of the camera and I would use the touch screen there to set focus, but the camera screen is inactive during Live View in CO (apparently). I finally figured out that I could zoom in on the computer screen in Live View and hit the AF button In the interface and it would focus, but using which focus points, I have no idea? Is this the way I am supposed to focus in CO? In the videos I have seen, I see people talking about it, but never actually explaining how they are focusing?
Does anyone know of a comprehensive video just on focusing in both normal and live view?
Thanks for any help - just flying blind in one eye here.
