If anyone from Phase One reads this - will there be a solution for WIFI tethering anytime soon?

If you want to ask Phase One, do it in a support case, and suggest it as a feature you would like to see. This is primarily a user-to-user forum.

I have moved to Sony (A7R III) and since the screen on the camera falsely lightens up the shadows a lot, I would love to shoot tethered to Capture One, to review the images during the shoot. This is pretty easy with a cable, but when shooting people without a tripod, I feel that the cable restricts me a bit, is easy to stumble over and such. And since the Sony offers WIFI, i thought, could it be possible to combine this with shooting tethered in Capture One?

So far, the only solution I have found is "Dslrdashboard", however this does not at all strike me as a professional tool, and it renders so poorly, that I can't even use it to check focus if I wanted to.

So have anyone found a solution for setting up WIFI tethering with Capture One on a Sony?

I have spent a day researching this, and so far my theory is enabling FTP transfer, setting up some kind of local server on this, and try to automate the import of images into Capture One. But it does not exactly strike me as a user friendly option, to say the least.

Does the camera accept full control of functions delivered by Wi-Fi?

How does the Wi-Fi communication speed compare with use of a cable?

As for you comment posed to Phase One - Historically the policy has been that the company and its staff will not discuss nor speculate about future developments. (See forum rules for guidance about such matters).

If the camera's Wi-Fi ability provides for suitable network connection speeds for your purposes using the "Hot Folder" option to apply C1 edits to the images may work for you. Camera control would be via the body only of course.

Historically third party Wi-Fi controllers seem to have been limited to Canon/Nikon and then only certain models. The manufaturers have also developed their own fit on options for extended comms, including Wi-Fi in some cases although most often with speed limitations. Obviously older equipment will be limited by the comms speed available back in the day. Worse still the devices use the camera battery and thus place additional demands on the battery life.

I do not recall seeing any devices for Sony cameras but a Google search suggests that one of the better known providers of such systems for Can/Nik is expecting to release a new version in the 2019 that will also be available for selected Sony and Fuji cameras. However your C1 usage would, presumably, still need to be via the Hot Folder option.

(I suppose there might be some potential for a Plug-in but for practical planning purposes in the near future I would not assume that was likely to happen. It may not even be practical, technically, or commercially viable.)

    HTH.
