Import options (lack of?)
Hello,
I've been using Adobe Lightroom since version 1.0 beta. I've used Lightroom as a DAM/Catalog since that time.
I have been playing with C1Pro 7.x and 8.x, and I find that I am more pleased with the editing results that I can easily achieve in C1Pro. I also find C1Pro (especially 8.0) to be far more responsive than Lightroom 5.6, especially after editing a few photos (Lightroom always slows down after a few edits with the spot healing tool or gradient tool for example, and needs to be restarted to become responsive again).
So I have decided to switch to C1 Pro 8.0 for my processing.
I have one major problem that I can't figure out however:
In Lightroom I have always, for the last ten years almost, imported my files from my memory cards into the following folder structure: D:\Pictures\2014\09\21\imgname.raw
Setting up this is very easy in Lightroom, as I just specify "D:\Pictures" as my root folder, and select Year/Month/Day/OriginalFilename.raw as my sort method. This has been available in LR since 1.0 beta.
So I have a huge collection of images that are sorted this way, and for me, sorting them like this makes complete sense, and I want to keep using that method without having to manually drag and drop files, or use other applications to just import the files in the folder structure that I want.
When I import files with C1 Pro however, there is no such option.
I can choose to Store Files to (under Import To) D:\Pictures
Then I can either choose "Create Subfolder using Date" or "Create Subfolder using Name:".
The first option made sense to me, until I tried importing images... And it created ONE folder in the D:\Pictures folder named with the IMPORT DATE and time... Not the dates that the images were made! This seems like complete nonsense to me, and would cause a horribly unorganized folder structure after a while.
I then tried "Create Subfolder using Name:" ... No options there either.
The fact that I can't customize these import settings is a big oversight in usability in my opinion. And I'm really hoping that I'm missing something...
I then tried to customize the NAMING options. Here I discovered that I could find the options that made sense to me, and I was hoping that I could specify folders in the naming format. I tried to configure a naming format string that looked like this: Image Year(yyyy)\Image Month(MM)\Image Day(dd)\Image Name
But C1Pro won't allow me to use "\" in the format... Thus, I can't specify folders. I also tried with "/"... Same result.
Is there seriously no way to be able to import my files in a year\month\day\filename.raw format??? Do I need to use a separate application just for this basic and quite common functionality??

File placement and import renaming is a bit deficient.
I'd like to place photos according to the following schema:
<<Year>>-
|-<<YYYY-MM-DD>> (the day the shot was taken)
|- <<yyyymmddhhmmss>>filename.ext (the filename prepended with a capture date/timestamp
I experience the same as indergaard, it imports photos that span days into a single folder.
Also, the timestamp formatting is inconsistent. I can get the yyyymmdd part ok (no spaces/punctuation) but the format for hhmmss has to be hh-mm-ss (forcing me to use hyphen punctuation).
Surely both of these are pretty basic capabilities - next point release please?
