Spyder Cube
Does anyone have experience on how to syncronize Capture One and "Spyder Cube"? Appreciate your ideas.
I am using a MAC and C1 V8. TUVM

You can use SpyderCube for setting white balance (using the white balance dropper), as well as setting your white/black points (using the highlight level, and shadow level droppers - same menu as the white balance dropper tool).
You cannot however use the SpyderCHECKR for creating color profiles.
DataColor and similar profile creation system (such as ColorChecker Passport) are not compatible with Capture One because they create DNG profiles, whereas Capture One uses ICC profiles.
You can use a SpyderCHECKR, or ColorChecker to create ICC profiles using other programs but they are so far either quite expensive ($300+) or free but pretty complex to use (making it pretty inconvenient to perform for every single shoot unless you've got a locked down studio/lighting/camera/lens scenario that doesn't change) so honestly it doesn't happen all that often unless you're doing reproduction photography that's color critical.
X-Rite used to make a great tool for creating ICC profiles but they discontinued it a few years ago since many people were more focused on Adobe Camera Raw & Lightroom (which uses a DNG workflow instead of ICC) so it's sort of a hassle now.0 -
I confirm the considerations made.
I'm trying this software that http://www.jpereira.net/roughprofiler free.
I use it for photography to paintings and I must say that used in a certain way with the result C1 becomes quite realistic.
I only found out last night that the ICC profile generated by RoughProfile not a LAB and then you can then use editor colors C1!
I am doing further investigation.0 -
Hi Brian,
You indicated that there is a tool which would work, would be not complex to use, but maybe a bit to expensive (usd 300+).
But price is relative, so this might be a viable solution (good cost/ benefit ratio) for some of the photographers.
You mentioned a few brands already in your answer, so I think you could also mention the name of this tool, and others if you like, which doesn't do the job as good.
I do not exactly understand why Phase One is so hesitant to guide us with this issue, it was often asked for from several users (from my subjective observation)...
We have been on the moon almost 50 years ago (this is rocket science, literally 😉 ), but it should not possbile to provide a good method to get some colors right, in 2015?
Cheers,

I agree with your considerations. Also I have lobbied in PhaseOne to solve the problem but nothing new.
I have also tried "basICColor" € 300 but I found most of what I mentioned in the previous post. basICColor you can download trial 15 days.

Sorry about that - I wasn't trying to be intentionally vague. It's a question that comes up once in a while, but the reality is that it's enough work that most photographers never bother and once they realized the steps involved and how frequently you need to create new profiles in order for them to be useful, the issue tends to fall away. There are a couple, but the only one I know of that's been used reliably since x-rite discontinued their tool is basICColor which you can find info about here:
Argyll CMS is the free one, but it is legitimately a huge hassle to use.
Good luck.0 -
I confirm what was said by brianmerwin, I use to create my basICColor profiles, the approach is not always easy, but it works.
Argyll on, I was not able to obtain a correct ICC profile in Lab mode, the only algorithm that works a little meadows, is Gamma + Matrix.
I also tested Make ICC Input 01.44 with raw RawDigger gone through, the result is as with RoughProfiler Lab big problem in Neutral gray, and better Gamma-Matrix.
The choice of the target is important patches 24 are in my opinion not enough to correct ICC profile, I use a color checker DC that might not be the best solution is either.0 -
Thank you.
By looking at BasiCColor website I have to admit, this indeed is rocket science, for me. ☹️ The thread might be helpful for others though... 😄
Cheers
