Importing CR2 RAW files from Aperture to CO8....
As my signature states, I'm on a Mac.
At this stage, rather than import my whole Aperture 3.6 library into CO8, I would like to import one file at a time to explore working on.
My original file will have been imported direct from camera and opened in Aperture but not edited there. So, will Aperture have already carried out its own RAW conversion? And if so, will CO8 overwrite that conversion when importing the RAW file?
I recall that Aperture offers the option to Export Original and so I would first Export the original CR2 RAW file from Aperture to the Finder before Importing to CO8.
Thanks for any help/advice 😊

Robin,
I thought based on previous posts your RAW files were Referenced in Aperture rather than stored inside the catalogue. Is that correct?
If so they will be in a folder somewhere in their original RAW state, On that basis you can just find them and open them in C1 (using a session) or import to the Catalog (Using the "Referenced"option to keep the size of the catalog down.
If the files are INSIDE the catalog, export ORIGINAL should just export the RAW file in its RAW state.
I have no idea what Aperture does in terms of any sort of default processing on import nor what that might mean, if anything is applied, should you export without specifying "Original". Others may be able to help out with the answer to that.
HTH.

PS. This is very much a MAC specific question rather than a general Workflow/Common across platform question so you might just get more responses if you post it in the MAC forum where there may be a larger audience with relevant experience. 😉0 -
Good move!
You mentioned somewhere the size of of your Aperture catalog file which as I recall seemed much smaller than your recent C1 from Canon results. Hence I have assumed that your Aperture imports were likely to be referenced files. In which case the originals would still be "free" in your system somewhere and therefore available directly to C1 in their original state without worrying about extracting from Aperture.
In that case and assuming they are unedited anyway in Aperture, you will lose nothing by taking the RAW file into C1.
If you had edited in Aperture and wanted to bring the edits with the file into C1 .... then that would be a different game and I will leave it to those who have been down that route to tell you of their experiences.
