Capture one exports with lens profile instead of real lens
Version of Capture One is 12.1.5 Sony Pro edition

Yes, it should not overwrite the EXIF data and keep Samyang data in the exported image.
If you are willing to share are raw file, I would like to look into this for my curiosity.0 -
Here is a link to download the raw file

Hi,
Thank you for the raw file. I opened it in Capture One. I think the issue is a bit different here.
I believe you that you have a Samyang 18mm, not the Batis. But in the raw file's EXIF, Capture One reads that it is the Batis 18mm and it links the Batis 18mm lens profile. In case I select a different profile, the EXIF on the metadata tool does not change, as it should not.
What your Samyang lens is doing is that it somehow write the code for the Batis lens in the EXIF during the shot. At least, that is my assessment. Nice trick, Samyang, and maybe it is very similar lens design. I believe many Samyang lenses are based on existing lens designs.
I would see this as an advantage. Just enjoy the benefits: great and affordable lens with good profile. 😉0 -
Surely Capture One should still maintain the EXIF data irrespective of the lens profile used or this is essentially compromising the integrity of the EXIF data? 0 -

At what point do you apply the Lens Profile?
I note that your RAW file is not named as it would be by the camera (as far as I am aware for Sony models).
Are you applying a Preset when importing? (And so creating a Copy of the original RAW file.)0 -
The raw file is renamed on import to include my own name, but no changes or presets are applied to the file on import.
If I check the raw file (in the capture one library), it still shows the correct exif

The exported image shows the lens profile

Your sample ARW file via dropbox reports as being a cRAW file - is that how it was shot?
Also your RAW EXIF screen shot shows Lens Model info at the bottom - Sony E-18 f2.8
Much too puzzling for me!
Windows file shows no lens into - I suspect it is only reading the data for the embedded jpg in the ARW.
Affinity reports only the Samyang lens (from 2 separate fields).
Strange.
Time to contact the Capture One Support Team and ask some questions?

Interesting to see that the Preview tool of macOS reports a Samyang 18mm in the EXIF, as well as Sony 18mm, but no Batis 18mm. This is only the case in Capture One.
As Grant says, time to open a support case.0 -

No,
Paul hit the nail on the head.
You're using a lens that stole Zeiss' lens design. I'm sure they didn't just stop there, or they did and never completely hid their tracks.
Either way, this isn't a Capture One issue. The lens is reporting a Zeiss. I feel like C1 might be looking up lenses based on serial numbers, not their 'description'...
GEach lens has its own ID-code which is sent to the camera body when an image is captured. Camera body firmware has a lookup table for these ID-codes. A code that is found in the lookup table is translated into uniform (per camera manufacturer) code and gets written into MakerNotes section of metadata of the image. It is up to the EXIF reader software to interpret the lens model code into a lens model description. Base line is, correct info can only be found if the info is already known by the camera.*
* And this info isn't, so C1 has to do some guessing it seems.

Just to clarify I think this is because both lenses report themselves as 'generic' (i.e. there is no LensType defined for the Batis) https://exiftool.org/TagNames/Sony.html#LensType
This means there has to be a little guess work maybe on what the lens is. I propose Capture One is looking not at a string/description for this.
Anyway, hope this helps. The left is your RAW image the right is a sample from a real Batis.

I've been testing around a few things and found a way to have the correct lens name to show up in Capture one . . . . BUT!!! The solutions is not a "Capture One" only solution.
Under "Preferences -> Image -> Metadata" you have settings to prefer XMP profiles over the embedded Metadata/IPTC ones. Since C1 can't read the correct info for the "Samyang AF 18mm f/2.8 FE" lens from the embedded data, we can get this fixed by having an .XMP file for each .ARW file. I can tell you only how it worked for me, how I got this working.
- Open Adobe Bridge
- Go to the .ARW file, click on it (lens info shows up correctly)
- Double click on the file
- Camera RAW starts (Photoshop start as well)
- Click on Done without doing anything. The .XMP file for the .ARW is being created (You can enable Lens profile correction as well)
- Go to Capture One
- Select the photo for which the .XMP file was created
- Click on the Metadata tab (the little "i" icon). To this point the lens info still says "Zeiss Batis 2.8/18"
- Click on the 3 little dots of the Metadata tool and click either on Load Metadata or Sync Metadata
- Now the Lens info says "Samyang AF 18mm f/2.8"
- Under Lens correction you can choose the profile for Zeiss Batis 2.8/18, lens info in EXIF will still say Samyang
The good side
- The problem can be fixed
- Adobe Bridge is freeThe bad side
- Adobe Camera Raw editing in Bridge won't work if you don't have a valid Photoshop or Lightroom subscription https://helpx.adobe.com/bridge/kb/camera-raw-editing-not-enabled.html
- The lens profile correction from Camera RAW that got saved to the .XMP file seems not to load in C1
- Well . . . This is not a Capture One only solutionAnybody know of any tools that can extract all relevant metadata from the raw file and write it to the .xmp file?
