How do I add multiple (several hundred) photos to an album?

If you are in a folder, you should be able to select all the images in it, with Select All, or Ctrl-A. How do you know that they are not all selected? Capture One will put a heavy white border round the first one, and a light white border round the others that are selected (and no white border at all around the non-selected images).

You should then be able to just drag and drop them into the album.

Thanks, that worked. I had one of the "Recent Imports" folders selected and tried selecting from the filmstrip down the right hand side. That didnt work. Dragging the Recent Import folder onto the album did the trick.

I now have a similar problem with metadata; keywords and captions (sorry, speaking LR there, not got the hang of C1 terminology yet). The difference is that for metedata I won't want to make every photo from a Recent Import the same, so in that instance I really do need to be able to select a small group of photos. Is that possible?

    Thanks,
    John

Yes I am sure that it is possible, but I am not exactly clear what it is you want to do. Example?

(By the way, recent imports is not a folder. It's a "collection". A folder is a physical folder on your computer, found further down the Library tab in the Folders section. But nevertheless you solved your immediate problem, so that's OK.)

Thanks, I'm struggling a little bit with the terminology and I'm reluctant to use a meaningful word in case I use it wrongly and mislead. I think I've reached a stage where the things I want to do are simple "if you know how".

OK, example, suppose I go out and take 100 photos, load them up and I want to add a keywod "tree" to ten of them, or maybe a metadata Description "tree" or I want to add them to my tree album. Is there a way to select those ten and do it once? I surely don't have to perform the same action ten times?

    Thanks,

Yes you can apply a keyword to multiple images.

Select the ones you want: either click, holding Ctrl for subsequent ones, or using the usual click the first, then hold shift and click the last (if they are all in sequence). Then make sure that the Edit All Selected Variants option is on (from the Image menu, or click the icon on the tool bar that looks like three stacked rectangles). Then apply your keyword(s).

As Ian3 has said that is the way to apply KWs to multiple images.

For multiple KWs at the same time (or phrases used as keywords) separate each KW with a comma.

There are some other interesting approaches especially if you are adding a new image for which other image(s) already keyworded already exist.

Also you can display the list of existing KWs in the Filters tool and simply drag one or many images displayed in the Browser to a KW you wish to apply. Or the level of a hierarchical KW you wish to apply.

Ian, Grant, apologies for being slow in replying, I'm only getting a little time to try this now and again.

I've managed to copy a description to several image, so that's one problem down 😊 but I'm still struggling with keywords. I found a video (I've been watching a lot of videos) that showed the method that Ian describes and I can get that to work, so that's progress but that's with new keywords. I can't succeed with existing keywords.

I've tried as you describe Grant, that's how I would expect it to work, but it doesn't work for me. The images seem to be picked up and I can drag them but as soon as I cross the edge of the browser window the images seem to be "dropped" and a "no entry" sign appears attached to the cursor in place of the images. By a "No entry" sign I mean a circle with a diagonal bar through it.

Maybe I'm in some sort of wrong mode? I'm sure it's something simple but darned if I can find a solution either by Googling or experimenting.

    Thanks for your help,
    John

Are you sure that when you are dragging and dropping images to the keyword you are doing it in the Filter list? I don't usually use that method, but checking just now, I find that

    - if I find the keywords I want in the Filters tool, I can drag and drop images on to them

    - if I find the keywords in the keyword list in the Keyword Library, I can't drag and drop them onto the keyword.

Which are you trying to do?

Ian, to pinch the title from a radio program "I'm sorry I haven't a clue" but you've probably worked that out by now 😊 The good news is that, while I am still struggling (i.e. failing) with drag 'n drop, in attempting to follow your suggestion I have stumbled upon a solution. If I first select a number of images in the browser, then click on a keyword in the Keyword Library (with or without using filtering) then those keywords appear in all of the selected images. That's great. I'm just looking for a solution that will apply existing (or new) keywords to a selection of images, it doesn't have to be drag and drop. Thanks very much, you've got me there.

    Regards,
    John
