    Mac or Windows?

Ar you looking in the "recents" list?

Creating 15 catalogues in one go is a little unusual as a process.

I wonder whether there is a better approach for your requirements?

If you mean by 'seeing' the Open Recent list from either the File menu or the Library tool, yes, I can confirm that it lists the last 10 opened catalogs or sessions.

It is possible to increase the number of "Recent" sessions or catalogues listed.

However I'm not sure about the source of the "10" decision. Thus I'm not sure whether any change applied is likely to be overwritten at some point.

I would suggest asking Support whether the value is effectively pre-set in the set up files or is dependent upon a comparable Windows value at the time of installation.

    HTH.

Thanks Paul, I assume it only lists the last 10 catalogs created and it's not the total amount of catalogs created. Grant, in no way did I create 15 catalogs at once, it pertained to the number of catalogs created over a period of time and the ability to only view 10 catalogs. I'll assume it's therefore the structure built into the software. Thanks for your replies,Jack

It's rather like other software such as Microsoft Word, which also shows you recent files, but only up to a certain limit. You can of course open any file by navigating to it from the File menu, or via Windows Explorer or Finder.

    Jack,

Are you someone who is prepared to dive into some of the files used to manage settings in a system and "tune" them using a simple text editor?

I ask because some people are extremely familiar with them, some are not and will not think of touching them and other might have a go with unfortunate results creating more problems than solutions.

If you are running Windows I can provide guidance.

If you running on Mac I'll leave that for someone else to cover. It may be much the same but I have no recent Mac experience. The last time I touched one was over 2 decades ago.

I posted some info on a related topic back in February 2019: [The Capture One forum has migrated to a new platform, as a result all links to Capture One related postsstopped working and have been removed] and you should be able to see "<MaxSize>10</MaxSize>". Back then the OP wanted to clean up the list as it appeared in C1.

I have successfully adjusted that number 10 in the user.config file to get a longer list if I need it (I have had <MaxSize>20</MaxSize>) . I do not know where the user.config is located on a Mac, but you should be able to locate it.

The Document Manager appears to maintain two lists, the "RecentlyUsedDocuments" and the "LastOpenDocumentList". As far as I have found out, the first is about the Library drop down list or the File->Open Recent menu while the second is a list of sessions/catalogs that last were open at the same time with reference to the tick box "Open in new window" in Preferences->General, Catalog and Session.

You may want to save a copy of the user.config file before fiddling with it 😊

Thanks you OddS - that has saved me writing it up. (I had completely forgotten your 2019 post!)

I would observe that one needs to choose the correct user.config holding folder as identified from the C1 release version number.

I would hope that once modified the change would carry forward with subsequent updates but, the change being what it is and not part of the C1 provided user controls, I guess that may not happen? What has been your experience in that regard?

For this post I just changed the name of ...\13.0.2.13\user.config to ...\13.0.2.13\xyzuser.config and then started C1.

C1 created a new ...\13.0.2.13\user.config and I can see that C1 copied at least my customized <MaxSize>11</MaxSize> setting from the previous ...\13.0.0.155\user.config (my only user.config that has <MaxSize>11</MaxSize>)

I closed C1, deleted ...\13.0.2.13\user.config, renamed ...\13.0.2.13\xyzuser.config back to ...\13.0.2.13\user.config, started C1 and things are back to normal (as in my current <MaxSize>15</MaxSize>)

So yes, some settings are carried over, but some are not. C1 tend to think I prefer their default workspace rather than my customized ones. I think some tool settings are not carried over (collapsed or not, last width settings...). I have occasionally cloned small parts from an old user.config into the current user.config.

I never experienced any serious trouble fiddling with user.config. Now and then I need to experiment to find the right element to change, it is not always clear from the element name. FWIW I am quite used to xml and tools of the trade.

Excellent information OddS and great that it comes form someone who clearly knows what they are talking about.

    The workspace point is interesting.

The default "reset" that started for V20 was, of course, related to the new split tool tabs with fixed and scrollable areas where C1 prefers to load a "scrollable" default.

If it keeps resetting (it might - to be honest I have not paid a lot of attention as my regular tabs are nit so different to the defaults these days) that might be something that should be reported. I'll try to remember to make some observations.
