After creating a mask, importing it to another layer, inverting the mask, I get both masks in the 2nd layer instead of just the inverted mask. Any ideas? Thanks.

If that is the case, then presumably you get a completely filled mask - is that right? (The inverted mask should be everything that is not masked in the original. So together they would cover everything, if that is the problem.)

If so that doesn't happen for me. I have just checked, and did the following on an image of a bird

    - created an empty layer ("Bird") and drew a mask covering the whole bird.

    - created a second empty layer ("distance") of the distant background

    - right clicked the distance layer and choose Copy mask from "Bird"

    - right clicked again and chose Invert Mask

I am left with a mask covering everything except the bird.

Does it not work like that for you?
