What license do you have now? In the Help, About screen, what does it say?

I also have a new camera -- also a Sony (which is what forced me to have to buy the upgrade to Capture One 20.) Is this new camera somehow causing anything that would drop my PRO?

Hmm, strange, as Capture One 20 does not support any new Sony camera that Capture One 12 not already supported. The A7R IV and the A9 II, for example, are supported by Capture One 12.

Now after a paid upgrade I no longer are PRO. Is this normal??

The same has happened to me. I had Capture One Pro v 12 (for Sony) and after the upgrade the "Pro" has vanished,

The license screen for V20 says

    Capture One (for Sony) (Perpetual)

    whereas C1 V12 says:

    Capture One Pro (for Sony)

There is also an ID number underneath that text which is identical on both versions.

If you go to the phase one web site it appears you can't now buy something called Capture One Pro (for Sony) and if you go here which compares the features: https://www.captureone.com/en/store it appears Capture One Pro and Capture One (for Sony) have the "full feature set" implying non-pro versions of Capture One for specific manufacturers have disappeared but they changed their name to drop the "Pro" even though they are seemingly "Pro"!. The Fuji version is the same.

This is very confusing and was not communicated at all during the upgrade process if this is indeed the case.

    Can anyone confirm this?

    Yes, I noticed the same.

Old names up to Capture One 12 for the branded (Sony, Fujifilm) versions are:
    - Capture One Pro (for Sony)
    - Capture One Pro Fujifilm

The new branded Pro versions are as of Capture One 20:
    - Capture One (for Sony)
    - Capture One Fujifilm
So yes, these are the ‘Pro’ like products, not the free Capture One Express products.

The rational behind this is - my guess - to give the Pro label only to the full, unrestricted regarding cameras, product. In the past, both Pro and the Pro Sony/Fuji labels were giving some confusion, making people think that Pro Sony/Fuji had some extras over the regular Pro, which is obviously not the case.

    My 2 cts.

It would be helpful if phase one updated the FAQ explaining the name change.

I immediately thought something had gone wrong with the upgrade and given the general confusion and difficulty others have had with the upgrade I thought I was just another victim.

So I emailed support which means unless they ignored me and the response I received initially wa just an auto reply they may well have had to waste time dealing with such non problems simply born out of confusion.

    That I suspect.

Hence an excessive number of cases to deal with probably multiplied by the same subjects appearing (often from the same people?) on the official social media facilities as well.

    It's called "Express". 😉
