Crop Problem-Sometimes
I know that I must be getting old when I can't figure something out that is probably right in front of my face! Using OS X El Capitan....
Sometimes when I am running through raw photo editing and cropping; I come to a file that will not permit me to 'crop'. I try to reset all values and still no luck. Of course if I copy settings from another file and apply to the problem file, the copied settings will apply. But this does not solve my problem. I am unable expand my file and make a proper crop of the area desired. It appears that the file has already been adjusted, even though I did not make an adjustment. (My setting is generally unconstrained). Any help would be appreciated.

Though this is a Mac and (presumably) Capture One 10 problem, I'm going to leave it in this forum as the issue probably lies with a commonality between Windows and Mac and a few versions of Capture One.
Under the Lens Profile tool, do you have the the Distortion set to anything? This is likely caused by the Lens Correction tool automatically cropping out distorted portions of your image. To disable it, set the Distortion slider to 0%. You can also disable it by default by hitting the ellipse (…) to the top right of the Lens Correction tool and hitting Disable Default Lens Correction.0 -
In addition to ben's comments ....
Would these files be some that you may have previously cropped, or cropped as part of a copy and paste or, perhaps via a setting applied during import (for example)?
There are a few sort of options that might need to be eliminated from creating certain types of apparent (but not usually actual) restriction.
Secondly if you have any degree of rotation applied and the corners of the crop are up against an edge somewhere, vertical and horizontal cropping may appear constrained in adjustment - even though you are working in "unconstrained" mode.
Clicking outside a crop area (usually away from a corner where different options take precedence) can unset the crop provided there is room fopr the crop to self adjust.
Shift-click and drag the cursor inside a crop area (Windows, not sure about Mac) will start a new crop action.
In fact there are a quite a number of different control features around and it is possible that you are seeing something related to something like them.
None of these may apply in your situation but it seemed sensible to mention them just in case they do.
HTH.

Ben and Grant, thanks for your feedback.
It turns out that Ben was right on the money. It turns out that the Distortion Control needed to be reset to '0'. Everything worked out fine.
Just another reason why I am a fan of CP1. While I know that if I created a Support Page, and answer would be forthcoming in 24 hours; I wanted to check out the Community. And I am not disappointed.0 -
Glad to help. Truth be told, if you created a support ticket we'd likely have an answer to you just as quickly 😊. Putting it on the forum definitely helps others who may encounter similar issues down the line. 0
