Slide around in browser?
hi,
maybe i am missing something if that is already possible, but i often find myself needing to go back and forth in the browser in a large volume of images. currently i seem to only be able to do this by the window slider at the bottom (if browser is below) or to the right (if browser is right). i am looking for something like dragging it over without having to click on that slider. ideally it would be like click and drag plus a fading out of the motion after i release. also a mode if the selected image is centered in the browser would be helpful.
is any of that already possible?
thanks in advance

On what computer/OS?
On a mac with a trackpad you can 'slide' the content around, somewhat similar to the way you slide a coin on a table. The scrolling has some inertia, so it keeps scrolling until it slows down by friction 😊 or until you stop it by tapping the trackpad. The harder you swipe, the further it scrolls. This is standard OS behaviour and works perfectly in C1's browser. Works the same was as scrolling on an iPhone/iPad.
Don't know if something similar is available on Windows?0 -

I understand the description but I'm still interested to better understand the real benefits of this behaviour compared to simpler scroll options. Also how centring the selected image (or the the current Primary Image of several images selected) offers significant benefits beyond "tidyness".
What can you tell me?
Thanks.

That's indeed an interesting question
I could imagine that centering the selected one might be useful to compare it with its neighbors. It gives some context as well.
Also, people like to have the thing they're concentrating on to be in the center. The "center of attention", you know. In emacs â€"shows my age, doesn't itâ€" there is indeed a command to center the line where the cursor is, and I use that very often. It's more comfortable than looking at the edge of the screen. Silly, but human.
Maybe the OP could shed some light on this?
Cheers,

Peter,
I can understand the centring thing in some instances.
On selection of an image it might well be nice to have it in the centre of whatever group it is being displayed.
However, if you have several images selected for some purpose and they are, perhaps, in name order if you make the image on the left the "Primary" image and have a number of images to the right of it ... would you want to centre the Primary on screen?
I don't think I would.
As for the scroll question I sort of winder if something like the "Sets" functionality could prove to be more helpful.
The touch screen style scrolling is fun up to a point but for serious work where you know what you are trying to find rather than simply scrolling around to see what appears there surely must be a better approach to efficiency in most use cases. I'm not trying to suggest I know what that would be for every situation. Just that I'm not convinced smart UI scrolling, as described, is "it".
However I would be quite happy to be persuaded otherwise. I might make more use (or even some use) of my touch screen!

hi,
so to answer the 2 questions here:
1. sliding. i just think it's an already well know mechanism we all know from our phones and just feels natural. also the "grabbing" of the filmstrip and sliding it around would be good as i won't have to find the tiny scroll window slider, exactly hit and than slide. it would make things way easier. think of it this way. if you zoom in the view 100% in and you want to see other parts, would you rather (already available) drag the screen around or find the 2 scrollbars and one by one move them around. honestly it's a no-brainer for me
2. centering. this also is a natural thing for me. most often you want to see what is surrounding, coming up and is before my current selected photo. sure it get's somewhat esoteric if you have multiple selected images but this can be thought of if this would really happen.or even deactivate the centering with multiple selections.0 -
Thanks for the answers.
My thoughts.
With the browser horizontal and in GRID mode below the viewer I would either use the mouse scroll wheel (or whatever equivalent might be available) to scroll up and down images available leaving a single row displayed or hit the shortcut key to hide the Viewer window and do the same but with multiple rows visible.
Alternatively use the recently introduced concept of a "set" an observe in the viewer jumping through x images at a time.
The centring thing is a more personal preference. It's not something that I see as a necessity but if you feel strongly about it raise a Support Case with "Enhancement Request" in the title and by doing that give the idea official status as a request for consideration.
HTH.
