Is JPEG XR anything useful?
I am looking for a file format, that has similar size with JPEG, but slightly better quality. Or same quality, slightly smaller sized.
Is JPEG XR anything useful?
Thanks in advance.

I haven't used JPEG XR. But it occurs to me that one of the problems with it might be compatibility. One article I read (not sure how up to date) suggests that many (most?) web browsers don't support it. So it rather depends what you want to do with the images. If it's just as an output format for yourself to print from that is one thing, but if you want to post the images online so that other people can view them, that might be another.

It depends on your intended use. There is googles image format, WebP, but like Ian's concerns I don't know how widespread its compatibility is.
If you were doing something like an eCommerce site with product on a pure white background which is on a white webpage you could use a format like png where the background can be made transparent to reduce file size.0
