question on two computers, one catalogue

Probably to people really experienced in workflow and networking, this will look like a simple question, but it's baffling me. I have an iMac and a thunderbolt connected backup drive in an outdoor office. I use Capture one 9 on it. It's all connected to my house via ethernet where there is an ethernet wdbook. I have a macbook I use on the road and in my house. That's only ever connected by wifi. I use Capture one pro 9 on that too. I work on photographic files on both the iMac and the macbook. What I'd like to do is have them share files and catalogues, so I can work from either computer, and have back ups of the catalogues on the networked drives too. But I can't figure how. I don't expect anyone to hold my hand with it, but a pointer to some resource which would allow me to educate myself on it would be gratefully received!

  I am not using Macs but I am using a multiple numbers WIn10 PCs each having C1P with hard disks associated with them. While my recent experience might not directly apply to you, it might be relevant, so here it goes:
  
  Suppose you have a set of image files and catalogs that are sitting on a single server somewhere (say, cloud or whatever). As long as they are accessed with exactly the same path names (including the disk labels and directories) from a multiple set of PCs, they can be used equally with C1Ps sitting on these PCs. Obviously I am ignoring the network bandwidth issues but that is a separate matter.
  
  Suppose you have a set of image files and catalogs on one PC (let's call it PC-1). Suppose you have another set of image files and catalogs on another PC (PC-2). And suppose you have exactly the same directory structure (e.g. disk labels, directory names, sub-directories, filenames and all that) of these image files on PC-1 and PC-2. Then you can copy the catalog files from PC-1 to PC-2 and vice versa, and they will work just fine on C1P on both PC-1 and PC-2. You can update the contents of PC-1 and PC-2 via USB3 sticks or portable HDDs or cloud services, whatever, and they continue to work OK. If, however, you happen to have, say, different disk labels on PC-1 and PC-2 for whatever reasons for the image files, simply copying a catalog directory from a PC to another won't work. The reason is that the disk labels and directories to locate the files are all hard-coded in the catalog files.
  
  I was going through this problem this past week.
