    You will have to provide the raw-file, if you want any help on this. Otherwise it is simply too much guesswork.

    This may be a very silly question to ask - but sometimes they are useful ...

    Have you activated the focus and exposure warnings perhaps for that session?

    I could imagine that under certain conditions with a very high quality image offering a lot of detail the results of those two tools might be a little unexpected.

    Do you have the same results if you process the file to an output file?

    Alternatively the description does sound vaguely like some sort of moiré or noise effect but I can't imagine why they should be a problem based on what you have written.

    As Christian has said a sample file and a Support Case with Phase must be the best option for you.

    I just was reminded I had posted on this topic and wanted to say I solved the problem. It turned out to be moire, caused by bright highlights on skin.
