Workflow similar that when i use Lightroom
Hi, I have a question with CaptureOne, to try to have the same workflow that I had with LR.
In LR had:
 - the external SSD catalog with its Smart Previews
 - Photos (the RAW) physically in another external HHD organized in the following way: one folder for each year and within this, another folder with the photos of each "session" for example: folder: 2018 and inside a folder with the name (AñoMesDia) 181012 Trip to Barcelona. Remaining 2018 \ 181012 Trip to Barcelona and here inside all the photos of this trip.
Doubts:
1. Better work with a catalog or better work in sessions (having a session for each folder of last level that I have, in this case the session would be called "181012 Trip to Barcelona"
2. There is some way of being able to have something similar to the SmartPreviews, which allowed me to edit the photos without having physically connected the hard disk and then when connecting it the settings are applied to the photo and I can export it to JPEG
3. If I work with sessions I can have the session file in the external SSD and the photos in the external HHD
Thank you

You can do this in a catalog, because the "previews" as Capture One calls them are stored inside the catalog file, but the raw files can be anywhere (even in several different places) you choose.3. If I work with sessions I can have the session file in the external SSD and the photos in the external HHD
I don't think so. The way a session generally works is that the session file (database) is stored in the session folder and the images are in subfolders of that (with their adjustments in sub-subfolders). So a session would look like this (with default session structure and taking Barcelona_2018 as the session name for example).
>Barcelona_2018 (this is the session folder and includes the session file Barcelon_2018.cosessiondb).
>>Capture
>>>subfolders with previews, adjustments, thumbnails etc
>>Selects
>>>subfolders with previews, adjustments, thumbnails etc
>>Output
>>>subfolders with previews, adjustments, thumbnails etc
>>Trash
>>>subfolders with previews, adjustments, thumbnails etc
It sounds to me as if what you want to do works better with the catalog approach.

I don't see why you couldn't have the session file on an internal SSD and the images on an external HDD, you don't necessarily have to use the folder structure generated within the session folders (Capture, Output, Selects, Trash), you can navigate to any folder/hardrive using the Library tool and include images into your session. I don't know if there would be any benefit to intentionally separating your session file from the images like there is in Lr by separating the catalog from the images.
The Capture One program itself would be installed on your internal SSD and if you make the session on an external HDD it would be setup up similar to the Lr way of separating the catalog from the files, no? .0
