Confused around: Catalog vs Metadata vs XMP files

C1 will keep the metadata in the catalogue for each image. You can have it create XMP files either automatically (controlled by those settings in the preferences) or by using the Image | Sync command.

    Hi Ian,

Thank you for the prompt response and help! Just for my understanding: does C1 also stores the edits made to the RAW files, or is it just metadata, keywords, color- and star tagging?

    Thank you!

Capture One doesn't store information about edits in XMP files. If you are using a catalog, it stores all that in the catalog database. If you are using a session, it stores it alongside the raw files (in subfolders) in the form of .cos files (and perhaps .comask files if you have used layers). This is one of the main differences between catalogs and sessions.
