Future support of OpenCL hardware accerleration in C1 Windows version
It seems Apple is going to deprecate OpenCL. This probably means at some point in the future MacOS will remove OpenCL support completely. Assumingly, the vast majority of C1 customers run C1 on a Mac, which in turn means C1 has to support "Metal", the new alternative propriatary technology from Apple.
What does this mean for us Windows users?
Will C1 support both, Metal hardware acceleration for the Mac version, and OpenCL for Windows? At which internal cost? Will we have to pay more because of that? Will the minority of Windows users have the same level of speed improvement and reliable implementation, especially when it comes to new C1 features? Will C1 abandon the Windows version (as Autdesk did with the Mac version because of Apples attitude and higher cost)?
OpenCL was a common standard defined by Intel, IBM, Apple, AMD, Nvidia, to my knowledge. Now Apple seem to go another route, but from what I read Metal is not faster for many (desktop) applications, is more of a low-level API than OpenCL is (developers need to code more than with OpenCL). So who is benefitting from this.
Competition is needed and brings us forward, but building up silos instead of standards does not.
I think my next phone or tablet is not going to be an Apple device anymore...

As long as there are not huge changes to OpenCL it shouldn't mean/change a lot.
