Have you already seen this FAQ article?

I think the problem you may have is that "Prefer" probably relates to an option between 2 values where both sources have a value.

If only one source has a value that value would be used.

Keywords, by their nature, would be a very grey area in that respect.

If your deleted keyword is present in the source file (i.e. the "original" DNG file in your example) and you are reading the metadata from the original file it will always re-appear UNLESS you use an application to remove it. C1 will never exit an "Original" file.

Full Sync may well be adding any keywords embedded in the original file back into the sidecar file and so may not be ideal for persistent operation unless you habitually work with the same files in multiple applications and wish to make sure both have the same metadata. In which case, presumably, you would also wish to eliminate the unwanted keyword(s) from the other application as well?

Actually yes, a couple of times already. ;-) But honestly spoken has been more confusing than revealing for a long time, but I think in principle I now get it (hopefully).

Anyhow, thank you for your feedback, which made it (at least partially) more transparent and clear to me. Please correct me if I am still wrong, ...

    • C1 does not allow to edit keywords embedded inside the original image file and so does not suit for a comprehensive management of all keywords assigned to an image
    • and I need to edit the keywords embedded in the original image file with another tool outside C1

    ..., right?

Would switching off "Prefer sidecar XMP over embedded metadata" help? (toggeling to file embedded metadata/keywords)

If not, could you by chance recommend a smart keyword management tool, allowing to edit any keywords, wherever they might be stored?

Trying to find a solution for not depending on a 2nd tool ...

With the import into C1, the in-file-stored keywords have also been imported and should now also be in the xmp-sidecar, right?

So, I can delete all in-file-stored keywords with a 3rd party tool, but still have them in C1, right? (as long as the 3rd party tool doesn't touch the sidecar)

And I can then subsequently manage the xmp-sidecar only keywords inside C1, right?
