Upgrade process is broken. Again.
This is the second time an upgrade has been made available to existing owners. Both times the upgrade process has broken. Now I have a "trial" version. What is wrong with this outfit that they seem unable to learn from past errors?

What problem are you having? I have installed the update and now it is telling me my Licence Code is not valid even though when I run the diagnostics everything checks out fine.

Same as you. I've discovered a work around though. Deactivate your copy. Then try to run Capture One. You should get an activation box. Use your perpetual license from your profile online. Then go to manual activation. That will generate a code to enter in your profile, and your profile will then generate yet another registration code. Input that into the activation box and you should be done. It's ridiculously convoluted.

Upgrade was unpleasant. Had to re-enter my license code and revalidate. Not sure how this will affect my existing installs.
New version number is confusing. Is it Capture One Pro 20 or Capture One Pro 13? No idea if I even upgraded to the newest version.
QAQC Phase One???

When you go into you account on the Captureone.com web site (Software Management section) what do you see in the Licence Management screens? Specifically what do you see listed under "Product"?
For example I have 3 entries. Each with separate activation keys.
One for CaptureOne 20 Perpetual Licence. (This also allows previous versions to run)
One for Captureone 20 trial licence
One for the Beta Test licence.
The latest beta test is now over so that entry is defunct.
The trial was something I ran when the the V20 release first became available. That is also defunct although I think if I was still using V12 I could re-trial V20 with a new activation key for this fresh 20.1 release.
As I tend to run new installation in parallel rather than update over the top of an existing installation there are times when I may need to deactivate and re-activate the different releases for a while.
In this case installing 20.1 alongside 20.0.3 (I never got around to 20.0.4) meant that I had to activate 20.1 using the activation code for 20.0 since to the system and the licensing mechanism it was a new activation. It took about 30 seconds including navigating the screens and copying/pasting the existing activation key.
If people have different experiences than something is wrong but I would recommend just checking that one understand the purposes of any multiple entries found and checks that one is using the appropriate key. In the case of an intermediate update like 20.1 it should only require the original activation key for V20 as far as I know.
If you have updated by replacing over the top of the previous V20 installation I don't think the activation key re-application should be necessary ... but I might be wrong about that. No big deal, it only takes a few seconds anyway.
Or should do.

Harlow, you can use the License Management tool to see your installs.
Unless you have changed the computer or something significant about the computer nothing will have changed.
If you have, in effect, installed on a "different machine" and used another "seat" just de-activate the old, now defunct, "seat".
It should all be a pretty simple exercise only made tricky because one uses it rather rarely and so lacks familiarity with it.

"In the case of an intermediate update like 20.1 it should only require the original activation key for V20 as far as I know."
Not accurate.
