Shooting tethered with an X-Pro2

Is the camera set to a mode that allows manual control?

Sorry that is a generic answer but I have no experience with Fuji. However I seem to recall a post months ago where a camera turned out to be set to Auto  (or something) and the symptoms described were very much like yours.

Not sure if that was Fuji or Sony though. Seem to remember that it was one of the two.

@SFA I tried it with manual settings. On the X-Pro2, the shutter dial on the camera and the aperture dial on the lens both have automatic settings and then the incremental steps for manual adjustments. I tried both. In automatic, the settings were grayed out in C1. In manual, the shutter and aperture settings were selectable, but immediately reverted back, or "didn't take" the changes.

In both instances, ISO was simply grayed out.

@User4568 I didn't see that thread when I searched, but that is a pretty good summation of my experience. I have been able to get the focus window where you can move the focus plane forward and backward to work. I believe I had the camera set to single shot there.

    Jameel,

Can you take a shot using the C1 controls?

If so does the file name get the name set up in C1 or is it named by the camera?

Just wondering of the different connection options available on the Fuji cameras might be influencing what you are experiencing.

    @SFA

With the camera connected, I am able to trip the shutter using the C1 control. I plan to use the Sessions approach rather than the Catalog. When I setup the shoot in Sessions, the file name is based on what I set it to in those settings. Live View allows me to preview, but not to shoot from it.

The connection method I'm using is USB tethered auto. I'm guessing this behavior could be a function of how the lenses and dials communicate with the camera. I also observed that I cannot run the camera connected to C1 and the Fuji Camera Remote app simultaneously (I used the latter to accomplish self-portraits for light testing).

There was a  recent video about shooting tethered with an XT-4 (iirc).

    I quickly looked through it.

USB Tethered Auto seems like the right mode so the camera can connect automatically for different devices but there was another USB Tethered option which I think fixes to camera tethering connection only. Always, until changed.

As a quick experiment it might just be worth checking that mode too. A long shot but has to be worth a try.

Other than that I would suggest using the "Submit a Request" feature in the forum pages to create a personal "Case" for direct technical assistance with the question.

In fact probably do that anyway?

Just an update. I had an opportunity to be on a webinar with David Glover and he confirmed that there is an issue between the mechanical controls and the firmware that prevents Capture One from controlling the individual settings from the computer (as they do with Canon, Nikon, and Sony). It seems that it may be possible that Fuji could rectify the issue with a firmware update, but that remains to be seen. Apparently the issue not only affects the X-Pro2, but it also pertains to the X-T3/4. He mentioned the GFX100 is able to be controlled remotely, inclusive of exposure triangle settings.

On a separate call with Fuji, I was informed that the Fuji X Acquire software is able to adjust those settings; I suspect a workaround of sorts could be had with that an a hot folder or something in Capture One.

For my needs at the present, I'll just be doing the direct tethering rather than focusing on remote control.
