Grey Gamma files
ImplementedHello everyone,
I have a request easy to fulfill, I believe.
Currently it is not possible to edit in Capture One files with Gamma Grey color space and all the options, including New Variant, are locked.
But in fact it is possible to create a new variant of the Grey Gamma file in Capture One, with changed color space - it is just necessary to use Edit With... command, what effectively creates a new variant, giving also the possibility to select the new color space.
So my request is: could you please enable New Variant command for Grey Gamma files, with the option to select a new color space? It works anyway, the only issue is that currently I must use the option Edit With... instead of New Variant, what wastes time as each file I want to convert then opens in the application, selected with the Edit With.. command.
And second request: could you please add Color Space option in the Filters?
Best regards
Jakub

Hi Jakub,
There is a misunderstanding. "Edit with" creates a new image file, like an export does. But a variant of the original file is a virtual copy which allows you to use different adjustment settings. There is no point in creating another variant which cannot be adjusted if already the first variant cannot be adjusted.
So your request should probably be to support editing of grayscale images in addition to RGB images.
I like the idea to support filtering for color space.

Hi BeO,
You are right - variant and new file are two different things. My wording was not precise - it comes from the fact, that the "Edit With..." form shows the "Edit variant" button, suggesting a new variant. But it actually makes a physical copy of the original file.
More precisely, what I need, is just the ability to use "Edit With..." command without actually calling the target application.
It would be enough to add a tick mark "Don't call the target app" to the command and add "if..." structure to the code - this is why I think it would be the easiest way.
Or preferably, a new command, purely allowing to change the color space of the original file, without the need to make a copy of the file.
I have thousands of BW scans with Grey Gamma color space and I'm not able to edit them in Capture One just because of the color space, what is ridiculous.
In my opinion, the ability to work on the color space level, including color space conversions, is one of the basic features each photo software should provide. But first let's start with the ability to unlock the Grey Gamma files for full editing, simply by replacing the color space.
