Maybe it is creating previews of your images. Is it happening every time you open C1 or only first time you import your images?

I am also having difficulty with Windows 7 loading a session of images. An 8gb card can take all night. File sizes are from a Canon 1Dx 26mb files. Even worse on 60mb Blad files. Changing between files will often bring a black screen for 5 secs or so. have 16gb RAm on an i5 machine with a1tb hd. Probably runs better on Phase One equipment.

That does not sound right at all.

Do you have the OpenCL usage turned on or turn off?

If it is turned on try turning it off and vice versa.

In each case the results of the next import will be written to the log file.

If you see no improvement then create a Support Case and ask the Tech Support team to help you work out what is causing the problem.

You could also turn on the Windows Performance monitoring screens to see if that gives you a clue about what is happening - but whatever it is is certainly not typical.

Check your XMP metadata settings. I have mine set to read on load and I suspect it reads that data for the active folder or collection on startup.

    Hi,

I suggest stopping to use C1 catalogs. I has similar problems and I use now only sessions. Madia pro is THE CATALOG.
As it is today, C1 eats up almost all the memory, but reacts fast. One more nuisance, C1 (ver 8.0 and on) does not exit from memory, does not free the memory.

    Good luck!
    Florin.
