Best technique for two camera event
I ran into this problem today...
I shot an event of 2000 images using two cameras (which were time synchronized) and when i got to my computer I did not know the best technique to import the pictures into a session.
What would be the best way to import the images, have them sorted according to time taken, and then renamed sequentially...
If you import the first card and sort by time, CO then proceeds to build proxies on the import, and this takes a lot of time ... then you import the second card and then proxies are made for the second card's images...
but if you then try to take all the combined files and sort by time and then rename sequentially, CO has to then rebuild all new proxies because you have altered the file name! So I am sitting thru two proxy building sessions!
With CO3.7 the file name did not matter as the program identified each file by some internal data..but with CO5 the file name matters..every time you switch the file name you have to then sit through a new proxy building session...
Anyone figure out a good way to do this or am I overlooking an easy way?!
Thanks
Stan

My assumption is that after import both and sort and rename, the proxies are renamed, not rebuild. Hence, no problem here.
But maybe I am too optimistic.0 -
proxies are not renamed..you have to sit thru a full rebuild of the proxies..this basically doubles your import time...
Still looking for a solution to this...

As an alternative I would use (and I currently do, so easy for me huhh) another tool for merging (import, sort on time stamp and rename) another tool than Capture One and when done let CO build the proxies once and for all... 0 -
Stan,
Renaming large amounts of files in Capture One, depending on your hardware, could take a few minutes. This is due to Capture One's assumption that the previous Proxies and Settings files need to be addressed as well. If you haven't made adjustments to the images and the proxies are of little consequence then why not sort and rename prior to opening in Capture One?
There are plenty of free rename software's out there. Although this is an extra step, outside of Capture One, if your hardware has limitations it may be a bit of a time saver.
*Edit* A bit redundant from Paul, submitted at the same time!0 -
I always use a third-party program because it gives me more flexibility whether I use two cameras or just one. Even after processing I will go back and rename to maintain sequence numbers after deletions. Be sure to also rename your .cos setting files to match in case you need to reprocess. This one works well: http://www.den4b.com/projects.php. 0
