You will need to adjust all settings and sessions new for old sessions and files.
Upgrade to 5 staight as 4 was and is simply a mess and many things you are maybe used to are not available in 4.
Processed Images are much closer to what you see in photosop than in 3.
2 GB never where enough to work propper 😉

You can say that 4 was Kind of a beta version for 5. Sad but true.
BTW workflow will be totally different.
Anyhow it is much faster than C1 pro 3 now

Same advise as Daniel3 gave: better go straight to v5 and upgrade your RAM if possible on your Mac model (CO3 could work fine with 2 GB but that is history now with CO4 and 5).

I've been happily using C1 PRO 3.7.9 for my NEF and DNG edits.

Please advise me, someone who is familiar with v.3,4, and 5:
If I upgrade to Mac OSXv6 Snow Leopard, would you recommend I go to v.4 or straight to v.5? What are the pros and cons?

    In particular:
Can I use image settings files from v.3 edits if I want to do more edits to old files in the new versions 4 or 5?

Are there workflow differences re sessions that I need to change when trying v4 or 5?

What differences do you notice in the quality of the conversions between v.3,4,5?

Is 2GB RAM on my Intel Core 2 Duo system not really enough to avoid frustration and hold-ups in v.4 or v.5? It seems fine in v.3.

Many thanks for answering some or all of these questions,
    Tom

From my personal point of vue, I would go directly to v5. D2x images are well rendered and D3 images are absolute wonderful.. v5 improves many features compared with v4, even if there are still some curious things happening but that might also come from OSX 10.6.1 ..?
In v4 for example, rendering was TOO smooth, well done for portraiture but not suited for other areas, IMHO. It's ok with v5. Accentuation is also improved, spot removal very useful and good but not as much as with LR2/3, skin color correction aso.. many other new features introduced.. the question will be : "do you really need these ?". C1 v5 wil run without any difficulty as well as with v4 on a recent MAC machine.
Comparing to v3 is difficult for me because cameras I use now aren't supported on v3.
The last question to upgrade will be : at what price from v3, it's not really clear ?? Phase One seems to be not very "commercial" with upgrades, as you can see if you read posts about this particular point..
But for me v5, even with some bugs remaining, is a very good choice. This decision is also depending, actually, of kind of work you are doing.

    Hope this could help.
    Cheers.

    Hello Daniel, Paul, and Mimot,
Thanks for the benefit of your advice and experience. Looks like I'll go straight for v.5. Since i read that even C1 PRO in v.5 will be a free upgrade for v.3 PRO users, will it be possible do you think to use v.5 on 2 computers AND keep a v.3 on an older PowerPC PowerBook? Probably not, I suppose that's asking too much, but if it is possible and allowed that would be very helpful.... assuming even v.3 will run on non-Intel!

Good to know processed images in v.5 will look the same in PS; sometimes my Nikon images looked a bit yellow in PS, but that could be some other problem maybe.
    Thanks again,
    Tom

Best to ask Phase One in a support case. I would not be surprised if they'd allowed you. But again, I am not authoritative on the matter.
