Metadata and migrating software
From what I understand when you add metadata in the Library Module, it writes that information to a sidecar file, as opposed to embedding it in the file. If say, years down the track, Capture One was discontinued like they did with Media Pro, is there any way to put that data in the file itself. Or have it available for other software programmes to read it, like a DNG file does when you make adjustments to it.

Hi,
Metadata can be read by all programs as long as they are written according to standard specifications. Edits can be rudimentarily represented by Photo Supreme (my preferred DAM System since 3/4 year). But - its works only with sessions of course!!!0 -
Thanks Robert, just confirming that other programmes can read the metadata input in Capture One that get stored in sidecar files though. Usually these sidecar files are only readable by the software that created them. 0 -

Not correct - if you mean with sidecar files *.xmp files.
XMP files are World standard and can read/ write by all/ most RAW editors and other programs.
But if you mean - with sidecar files, C1 sessions *.cos files, its true - this files can read by Photo Supreme but only to show your edits, not for reading metadata like stars, keywords and others0
