How to apply and save adjustments to a selected image
Newbie question here.. feeling a bit uneasy asking for this simple thing..
So I have made adjustments to raw files
I would like to actually Save/Apply those adjustments on that photo.
Normally I would expect a kind of [Apply]button somehwere.
There is an apply button under adjustments, but when clicking on that, I am getting something different.
Maybe settings from clipboard are applied on top of my corrections.
There is a lot on copy adjustments and apply on other, but I don't want to apply adjustments copied from
another images.
Anyway, as said, I am satisfied with the results but now how to simply save the file like that.

Hi, you do not have to save adjustments. CO8 will do the for you automatically.
The Adjustments Clipboard has a different purpose. It helps you to apply adjustments from one image to one or other images.0 -
There is no need to 'apply' the settings you make.
The adjustments you make are stored in the catalog you use or, if you use a session, as files in a dedicated folder along with your image files.
'Apply' only applies adjustments you copied before.
Your raw files are never modified by CO. If you want to save an image with adjustments for viewing / using in another app, you must export it. Choose or create a recipe, activate it, and process your image.

Both - many thanks indeed.
So, what you are saying is that once I exit Capture One and launch it again, the adjustments I made to the files are still there?
Indeed, I checked the .arw files, but saw no date-time changes, so that made me unsure and feeling that any adjustments would simply be gone the next time.
I made some adjustments to photos yesterday.
Then I discovered that the timestamp was wrong (wrong month) and using ExifTool I updated the timestamp.
This morning some program caused some difficulties and I had to restore a windows image.
Needed to import the files again. When checking out exposure, luminance, etc. I think they were again at the default settings?
Exporting: I tried to export a few images and noticed that 20MB ARW files got as big as 45MB PNG files, without EXIF-data. Is that correct?
Original date in the exported can still be found under XMP (via ExifTools)

p.s. I attach images as URL - when I add them as images using Img links they show up very big.
No way to display them as thumbnails.0 -
Yes, the adjustments you made in CO will be there when you open it again.
The adjustments in CO are a stack of calculations. They are applied on the fly when viewing the image and making adjustments. This way you never loose the original and you can make variants without wasting space. In addition, you keep the quality high. Adjusting and saving a single image over and over leads to a significant loss of quality.
It is possible to store information in a png, but not in an exif compatible format. So it cannot show up as exif. But many programs can read that information nevertheless. Exiftool can.
Whenever you import an image into a catalog, CO performs a check if this /path/image is already there. If for example path, time or content are different, it treats the image as new image.
File types like PNG, TiFF, etc, can be larger than the source raw image. The sizes you mention seem OK, but I don't know your recipe settings.
A question: are you using a session or catalog, Windows or OS X?

Many thanks again!
Truly appreciate your help.
Adjustments: okay, I understand that Capture One will keep track of the adjustments. Personally I don't like to have applications stored on my C-drive, for various reasons.
My photos are stored on a different drive (\Photos\<subfolders> based on creation date) and on that same drive I have a few other folders, for the catalog, catalog backup and exports.
Reason for me to keep on 'nagging' about this adjustment-apply thing is that I am unsure as to what will happen with these adjustments in case of a fresh install of CO.
Q: What would I then need to do to revert to the 'old' situation and are all adjustments then still be there?
Exif and exporting to PNG: Indeed Exiftool can read XMP data and original creationdate is there. Tried to find an answer on Internet as to whether exporting RAW to PNG the Exif data will be lost at all times The Exif shooting time is important for me, e.g. from organizing point of view. Just gave it a try exporting to JPG - Exif data is available there.
So, I will continue to use JPG in future.

Hm.. I see that I accidentally posted in the wrong forum. Regretfully I can't send a PM to the administrator as to transfer this thread to the Windows section.
BTW - Am using Capture One Pro v8.1 on Windows 7 x64.

I will not be able to answer Windows specific questions. 😉
And I'd love to have CO on Linux! 😄
I am using CO from internal drive, tethering to internal drive, catalogs on internal drive and USB, sessions and session images on internal drive, catalog images referenced from USB. Internal drives sync'ed on 2 machines, and everything backed up on additional drives. It all works fine. I move my images to USB and referenced catalogs as soon as possible. but sometimes sessions come in handy.
Your adjustments are saved in your catalog or, for sessions, as files in a dedicated folder within your image folder.
Installing, updating or deleting CO doesn't remove catalogs, sessions or adjustment folders.
