    Doug,
When an image first comes in we simply display the embedded thumbnail while we're working on rendering a file.
This is unavoidable as we must render a file before we can accurately display it. The alternative would be to display nothing until the image is ready.
As a possible solution please use the "Auto Select Next Capture > When Ready" option so that Capture One will not display an unrendered image in the Viewer.

Thanks for the help, Drew. I'm finally coming to C1 7 from 3.7.9, I know it's a shock. Obviously, things are quite different now, but 3.7.9 was way faster. Dumb question: will a more robust machine speed this up significantly?

    Thanks,
    Doug

    Greetings Douglas,

The short answer is yes. A new machine would offer considerable additional performance over your current configuration, especially if you configure the new machine to address C1Pro's power hungry ways (fast processor, lots of cores, lots of RAM, good graphics card and SSD). The machine you currently run isn't really worth sinking the kind of money into upgrades that would be required to improve things and you would most likely only see modest performance gains.

However, there may be additional (free) things you can do to get your current machine to run faster.

    - Repair permissions, and then repair them again to make sure the repair was complete.

    - Check your C1Pro settings to make sure you are using settings that work for your setup.
    * Turn open CL to Never/Never
    * Set an appropriate preview image size
    * Make sure only the Camera Brand you are shooting (if it isn't a Phase back) is checked in the providers section of the capture preference pane

If you have any questions, feel free to post back and I will be of any assistance that I can.

Also Doug, what OS are you running?

Capture One 7, run on the same machine as Capture One 3, will certainly seem slow in comparison.
The same way that Mac OS 10.4 will seem fast when compared to Mac OS 10.9 on the same machine.
A more robust software will require more robust hardware to meet the same efficiency as an older, less robust, software.
