    LMAO..

Of course, I would manage to find the solution, RIGHT after posting.. It's in the : Catalog Collections>All Images! Durrrp. Sorry everyone! Still though, I wouldn't mind knowing what the actual difference is between showing and not showing the folder hierarchy?

Maybe I should post the other question then... (To which I'll find the answer as soon as I post it?)

In LR, you can sort photos with filters. Eg; Focal length; lens used etc and by orientation. I cannot find a way to filter/show photos strictly by their orientation. I only want to see my landscape shots so that I can choose website home page slideshow shots. I see that there's something similar, like resolution.. but that doesn't seem to do it?

    Oh boy..

I've apparently started a s**t storm with C1. So as I attempted to select all photos and go into the IPTC field and claim myself as the photographer, I started to get the dreaded pinwheel of doom.

I'm on an 2014 iMac i7 with 24gigs of RAM. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2048 MB

But for whatever reason... C1 didn't like something I did. I had to force quit because I couldn't do anything. I'd only have UI access every other second, but not long enough to do anything but force quit. Upon trying to open up again, this is what I have gotten:

and this, when I try to repair:

This isn't inspiring a heck of a lot of confidence for me in moving away from LR. Just sayin'.

Sorry I can't answer your question, but stick with it!

I have been LR since version 1, and have made the switch a few months ago - like you I kept having frustrations (and still do) and some things that seem so counter-intuitive after LR - but I have no doubt I won't go back - C1 is helping me produce much better final photos and has functionality that LR doesn't come close to, especially with colour. The adjustments I am having to make are definitely worth it

I hear you on that. Especially since I'm shooting with a Fuji X T1 these days. I can't figure out the DB problem, so I guess I'm gonna have to go old school and fdisk that sucker and start over! lol

    Thanks though!

If they can just sort out the god awful heal/clone facility...THAT's the thing that makes me switch applications unnecessarily. I am hoping C1 version 10 will nail that. Otherwise it's awesome.

I haven't tried using that tool yet.. hope it's not as bad as you're making it out to be? I'm okay with doing basic blemishes and dust etc.. but I don't want to have to go into PS JUST for that?! I'd usually go into PS for more advanced or difficult skin retouching, but LR usually did a good enough job for stray objects if it's street photography or landscape stuff like wires/poles.

Right now, I'm just seriously annoyed with how unintuitive the UX is with something as simple as setting IPTC info! I have tried several times to input the data into one photo, then thought I had copied the info with the double arrow at the top, and then select all photos minus the one I started with, and then hold shift and hit the double arrow again. Because, that's what it says to do. Yet, it doesn't work? Some photos have the data copied, and a lot... not.

    What am I missing?

If anyone else can chime in, I'd really appreciate it. This is driving me nuts!

    Hi Doug,

Did you check that the "edit selected variants" in the main menu of the C1 window (piled sheets) is ON (switched to orange color) ?

I guess that's a real problem for everyone coming from LR. Catalog handling is a charm, intuitive and quick. Capture One is just the other way round. I don't understand the UI catalog wise. I alway try to find out what the developers might have in mind. Capture One is just a nightmare here. I'm only still using it for image quality though I doubt that they ever will make a simple and transparent catalog process. Pity.

Sure, LR catalog is much better, but I don't complain too much about C1's catalog, even if it could be much better. I think Phase One developers should rethink seriously the SQLite database of C1.
But anyway, my catalog (17000 referenced files), carefully managed and organized, does more or less its job, and I can't think of developing in C1 and referencing and managing pictures in LR or PhotoMechanics, for instance.

Hey. Thanks for the response. Just what is this option meant to do, exactly? Also, I'm on a Mac.. Not sure if the UI is the same as with Win. I searched, and mine is set as: Edit all selected variants"

I have deleted and rebuilt the catalog. I think I just needed to give it more time to chew on keywords and other data before trying to change anything or especially before force quitting. I must have corrupted it somehow. In any case, it's fine now. But I'm going to say this... C1 is infuriatingly non-sensical as far as its UI and UX is concerned. Way too many seemingly redundant buttons, things misplaced, and really... not intuitive at all when it comes to something as simple as selecting all of your photos and assigning them some IPTC data!

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to do it! I SEE how it should be done, I think.. but it just never seems to actually work for me. If anyone here has a Mac, and can help me out with this, that would be great.

I guess I'm going to have to resign myself to the fact that the C1 team didn't think it was necessary to add "photo orientation" to the filter list. Which is depressing. It's always the small things that make a big difference. I'm still in disbelief that this cannot be done.. Not funny, but I almost have to lol.

Lastly *for now*, is there a place where there are VERY detailed tutorials that go over every bit of the UI? I'm finding the Youtube videos to be rather blah... and not very concise. They seem to only glaze over things, and not go too deep into detail, despite their lengthy run times.

I think I've finally sorted the IPTC issue. That was much harder to do than I thought it would be. And I'm not that dense, with most things. 🙄 😁 Now if only I could sort *pun intended* the sorting via orientation issue... 😭

My understanding is that the image you are copying settings from must be the primary selection (with the thick white border) and the images you are copying the settings to just have the thin white selection border. Then you can shift-click the double-arrow button.

Yep, I had tried that.. but it never really took. I wound up just doing a select all, filled in the fields, and then did a custom user profile save. That seemed to do the trick. Thanks though. No idea about the orientation filtering, right?
