Auto correct
I very often start with the auto global correction and then tweak it to my likings. I find it that it always is very aggressive in terms of the highlights. It usually clips highlights, I think by remapping 255 to like 245. Is there a way to change the Auto adjustment?

If you click and hold on the A icon on the toolbar, you get a list of things that are included in the auto adjustment. So on mine, there are ticks against Exposure, High Dynamic Range, and Levels, but not against white balance, rotation and keystone. You could untick Levels. I think that if you click the A icon you get the same adjustment for, say, Levels, that you would get if you used the auto adjustment on just Levels (the little A in the levels tool). My perception is that the auto adjustment on Levels is often less aggressive in version 7 than it was in version 6.Particularly on images that pretty much fill the whole range from 0 to 255, the auto adjustment of Levels now seems to make a very small change (say to 1-254) compared with the two or three at each end that version 6 tended to do. But it does seem to depend on the image. If the histogram goes all the way to the end on one colour, but not all, it is less easy to predict what it will do and I tend to want to make a manual adjustment after seeing what the auto levels will do.

Also, have you checked C0 pref for exposure ? you may set there your own default values… 0
