how to scroll through the thumbnails

Ok, i use my mouse wheel to scroll through my RAW files but if i use the drop down box in WB or Exposure i find i then end up scrolling through the options.
Apart from using Ctrl+B twice how can i just put the focus back on the thumbnails and wheel?

    You could also just click on one of the thumbnails.

    Yes but i dont have the thumbnail view open.
    I find i can make adjustments using just the big preview image and then click on the big preview and then use the wheel to scroll to the next one but if i use a drop down box, say WB even when i go to adjust exposure the wheel is still changing the WB
    i dont want to have to open the thumbnail explorer
    does this make sense?

    It makes sense now. Have you tried clicking anywhere else on the screen. Just to defocus the drop down box?
