Can't render thumbnails for Stylus 1 RAW files
Hi folks,
I tried to import RAW files from the Olympus Stylus 1 into Media Pro 1.4.2.44.
Ik getting the following error: Unable to scan media file: xxxxxxx.ORF.
No thumbnail is generated.
I have the Adobe DNG Codec Pack 2.0 installed and the latest version of DNG converter.
Capture One has no problems withj the files whatsoever.
What's going wrong here?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I'm running Windows 7 64 bits BTW

Hi,
I'm not sure because I'm no more MP user.
I mean you can set in MP settings which RAW-Engine should MP use - Capture One or Windows own. If you have selected Windows RAW Engine and she can't read your files.....
I hope you have understand what I mean.0 -
Thanks for the reply, RobiWan,
I tested with capture one engine as well as windows engine. Both without success.
i also tries with or without embedded previews. I am wondering, what's wrong...

Very interesting. Can you upload a RAW Image to dropbox or similar place? C1 can read your RAW Files without any problems? 0 -
Hi RobiWan,
Here's a link to a Stylus 1 RAW file:

Hi ObiWan,
Yes, Capture One processes them just fine.
This camera is supported since version 7.2.3. Could there be a cause for the problem there?
I tried to import yet another RAW file and noticed a file being created with the extension .cos.
It has the following content:

Hi,
I took a deep dive into the matter. And here are my conclusions:
First of all, Windows rendering will not work because the Stylus 1 is not yet supported in the Microsoft Camera Codec Pack (6.3.9721.0).
Capture One rendering is not going to wirk because files supporting capture one rendering (64bit\P1*.* and other files) are not updated yet. My guess is that they are still at C1 version 7.2.2 or below. And Stylus 1 support started with C1 7.2.3.
I guess I'll have to wait for an update from Phase One.

Hi,
Try the Codec pack from http://www.fastpictureviewer.com/
You might have to wait a long time for Microsoft to update their Codec pack as they, in turn, will be waiting for Olympus to update their software. Olympus, as with other camera manufacturers, have little incentive for doing this, as it provides a route for you to not use their [rubbish] software. It almost as if they still consider your images to be 'their' images.
If you can stump up the extra few bucks look at getting the FPV Pro. This enables you to view images much, much faster than in other software. After a shoot I use it to sift images in to keepers and deletes. I can rattle through 24MP RAW images at up to 1 per second on my laptop.

Even with a very old version of FastPictureViewerCodec (just a few dollars) and the predecessor of MediaPro the file is rendered:

Hi ian and roelof,
thanks for your replies. Because fastpictureviewer fits into my workflow, i bought the viewer and the codec pack. And guess what: it works beautifully. Frankly i had never heard of fastpictureviewer. So, again, thanks for the link.
