Critique and suggestions on the "Web Contact Sheet\&qu
Ok, I'm quite disapointed regarding the new "Web Contact Sheet".
I'll try and explain how:
1) QUALITY
The outpot files looks horrible. Seems to be both total lack of sharpening but also JPEG artefacts.
2) SHARPNESS
Totally missing sharpening tool. I'd like a separate sharpening setting for outputs in this small web format presentations. (And I think it should somehow be applied to images after they are scaled down to output size).
I've tried to increase sharpness in "Details" section, but this doesn't help a lot. Also I don't want to do this since I like to make just minor overall sharpening for my final converting. I still prefer to work with realtively soft images and then apply final sharpness in Photoshop CS.
3) IMAGE SIZE
I'd really like to se a value showing how many pixels to constrain my pictures within. The slider as it is today forces me to guess(!) since there are no values.
4) FILE SIZE
Files seem to be very big, which is not desired in case of e-mailing them.
I typicallt want pictures that are 600-800 pixels on longest side. In V4 these files end up around 300kB.
In Photoshop I can make the same image size, looking 10 times better, and still only consume about 100-150kB of disc space.
5) FILE NAMES
Why on earth does it have to be such strange file names? I'd like the original file name to stay for each image, because some clients of mine prefer to look at the pictures, or be able to pick them right out of the containing folder, and still know exactly which picture it is.
This is especially desired in case of sending som hundreds of pictures to a client for common decision on which ones to keep and to work further with.
So, the new function looks really nice and the presentation format is great. But the total lack of performance makes it useless for me.
As it looks today I'd rather have the old "Quick Proof" function back.

I think I've written something like this shortly after C1V4 came out and I can only second everything you've said.
The quality is absolutely miserable until you crank up the size to the maximum...0 -

You may find it worthwhile to put an unsatisfactory gallery in a zip file and attach it to a support case. You'll get more and quicker feedback from Phase One staff that way.
That said, I think that proofing and HTML generation are different tasks with different purposes. and that it is wrong to try to combine them in one function. I don't use C1 for either task; it is much too limiting. In fact, I don't regard C1 as a workflow application at all, but as a specialist component of a workflow based on other applications.0
