the new and the old
I have just upgraded my Capture One software which I thought was wonderfully clear and easy to navigate. I did this prior shooting a good job last monday and tuesday. Neither I nor my digital tech felt comfortable using the new software. It's dark and small and hard too read.. Is it possible I can have the old version running as well. I am feeling left in the dark with the new.
Also I did not see whether it is possible to have 1-4 images up on screen at the same time. This is a very useful when making comparisons. Please tell me it still is there.
Perplexed

You can and should run both versions. Learning/training on a new version that adds so many features is a bad idea....adding those new features has made necessary some modificatons to the former keystrokes. Print out the sheets for the new keyboard shortcuts from the manual and keep them handy.
While there are things that are different and require changing my workflow, I'm convinced that the new version has enough benefits to make the transition worthwhile.
So keep your production work on 3.x, but indeed the ability to compare/adjust several images is actually easier in V4, and variations are becoming a must use feature even though I did not see the benefits initially....0 -

I think the better question would be whether we can have an option to change text and background colors in future updates. Dark orange on black is possibly the worst choice.0 -

CO4 allows you to view multiple (up to 12) images in the main viewer. Besides selecting the images, change the Viewer's mode to 'Show All' (versus 'Show Primary'). You will find in the top left corner of the Viewer a 4 square/1 square symbol. Select the 4 square Show All option.
Because you are new to CO4, you might be interested in the CO4 lingua of 'selected' versus 'primary selected'. When selecting multiple images, one image has the 'primary selected' status, showing off with a fat white border in the browser. Commands like rating, tagging and processing are only executed on the primary selected, unless you use the Shift-key modifier in conjunction with the command.
Back to your original question of comparing - you're still with us? - please try this out. Right click on an image in the browser and select 'Set as Compare Variant' (orange border lits up). In the Viewer's Show All mode, you will have this image on the left, while browsing through other images, projected on the right one at a time. When you find a better one to compare to, you give that one the Compare status and continue. After comparing, clear or unset the compare variant status likewise. You can find these options in the Edit menu as well.0 -
Well, I'm quite unexperienced to photo processing. That's why I really liked version 3.7 - those tabs made it easier to understand the process.
That was sacrificed in 4.0 - I dont see the point. And while that grey in black layout is cool, it's ridiculus hard to figure what's a button and what's not. I used 4.1 for some time, reasonably bug-free. Recently I tried 4.5 - and was very dissapointed to discover that now I have to set up the import specifications each and every time. Ridiculus.
I must say, I all in all find that CaptureOne has taken a route, I definately dont like. From my point of view, PhaseOne has sacrificed usability, and aimed for useless fancy look. I'm close to give up on it.
Best regards,

Let me point out that the Icons do replace the tabs, they are arranged in the sequence that fits the workflow you describe as the tabs did. However, I really think having the tools on ONE pane as well as the 100% view is much better. You do have a choice in V4...as well as the ability to rearrange toolsets....0 -

Just in case you start rearranging, it is a CO 4.5.x Pro/DB option but a nice feature nevertheless to optimize your workflow.0 -

Point taken. But they hided it very well !!! And I still think the interface has way too much emphasis to look smart, instead of being usefull. Especially that black background. And that downgrade of the import-tool.... pointless !!! Grrr...
I got a Nikon dSLR, and I've downloaded the trial version of NX2. Aint as slow as I thought, in some areas it's faster than CaptureOne. Time will show, but so far NX2 seems to win. Even though I got to shell out some money...
