Why are thumbnails so small?

I generally am happy with the performance of MP1.3, but I hate the extremely small thumbnail images that it displays. Is there a way to enlarge them, and if so, can it be done without an inordinate loss of speed?

    Go to the menu Edit->Thumbnails and Previews. Choose the size you want and then select all images and under Action select "Rebuild Items". Now when you click on the + symbol in the top right the preview images will be bigger.

    Thanks, that worked. 640px seems to be the maximum size, which is not great but is better than what I had been using.
