V4.5pro first impressions
WOW things:
- user configuration of the tools
- user programmable keyboard
- sharp previews up from 25% (actually not "wow"... but at long last we have it and I'm happy about that)
very good things:
- sessions
- styles
- clarity tool
- color tagging
- usability of color editor
- skin tones
- marks already processed files
okay things:
- viewer (F10)
- vignetting tool
- lens distortion correction (unless you code correction of complex distortions... that would be "very good" if not "wow")
bugs:
- thumbnail creation is very slow... much too slow (C1 V4.1.2 was slow as well, but faster as 4.5 pro)! and why do they re-create every time (anymore)?
- if you process twice the same capture an error message apears... unless you set another name for the output file.
in previous versions C1 just added extension "-1" (e.g. CF001127-1 for the second file)
- view menu: after exposure tool (STRG+5) there is the composition tool (STRG+6).
So the lens tool is missing. The same in the manual.
result: up from STRG+5 the tools shortcuts are wrong.
what I miss:
- keyboard shortcuts for color tagging
- a button to turn on/off sharpening without changing the settings (this is very important).
this can't be managed with the new viewer (F10).
actually I don't understand the new viewer window as it doubles the main viewer except of viewing size (fine for dual monitor, okay).
the viewer window does not stay on top (in the foreground)... so if you want to adjust something... the viewer window disappears behind the main window.
what I would like to have is a window (always on top) where I can see a crop of the capture zoomed to 100% while seeing the entire image in the main viewer (zoomed e.g. to 25%).
actually... what we had in V3x with the focus tab... but detachable (and always on top).
in addition... a button to turn on/off sharpening is good for adjustment of sharpening itself.
- a command/shortcut to hide tools and browser in one step (now we have to press STRG+T and then STRG+B)
what I'd wished to have (still):
- the interface is too dark. user programmable color scheme would be very, very welcome
Best Regards,
Thomas

Hello
I have a few +
- Filnames in the WEB gallery is the original name now, not a long numerical name
- Processed pickture got the "process weel" in the thumb list, but ...... The color is ligth grey, so its extremly hard to see0 -
Color management:
- A switchable monitor display was promised for the pro version.
Not yet there or plan canceled?
- Does 4.5 now support AdobeCMM? If not... does Phase is going to support it in the next update?
- No switchable CMM by now...
All in all seems to run fast and stable (except what noted above).
No problems by now running Vista 32bit, Intel 4x2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce7600GS0 -
+ the new clarity-tool produces great results while used with the HDR-tool.
+ the overlay grid, helping composition, is now adjustable.
+ the vignette function.
- cant´t really find so much use/purpose for the new viewer-tool ?!
At the end of the day, I´m very pleased with this...

One thing I have to complain about... But this is not to be taken so seriously 😎
I mean... C1 has swedish language support, but not finnish ?!?! Come on, what´s up with this ? 🤓
Yeah okay, finnish is not spoken but in Finland...but the same goes for swedish.
Neither are major languages...
As for me, I would not mind if PO deleted swedish language support and changed it to finnish 😂0 -

I have processed the same file 5 times without any alterations and I have 5 files with -1 upto -4 😲0 -

Okay?! Hmh... I'll do some more "research" on this. Thanks!

Old version
Have as many sessions on your browser as you want, and all the previews go where you tell them. I have one tab for the shot I'm working on, and when I'm done I move it to the finals tab. This eliminates the risk of deleting final raw images when I'm tossing "Test" pictures when I move to the next shot of the day. Clicking from one collection tab to the next instantly displays the contents of the folder.
New version
Each folder of images has it's own preview collection. When you move from a working folder to a final images folder, CO has to load all the previews. VERY SLOWLY. What a pain. What was wrong with the old way? Seems developers like to assume we are idiots that have no idea how to organize our work. Any chance of going back to the old version.
(that's what Tech support had told me would be in the "Pro" version)0 -
and how about Per-Channel levels? 0 -
My first impressions, Great, It finally have some tools that I've expecting.
I love vignette function, but ... there is no option to apply vignette on just single corner,
sometime dark corner only appear on one side of the photo if you shoot with stitching. Or any smarter solution can be provided?0 -
I can't beleive that at this late date that 4.5 is still a 32 bit program. Come on guys get with it. 64 bits it the current set of OSs. I.E. Vista 64 Ultimate. 0 -

You sounds like a guy who cares more about "digital" than "image" in the digital image era.
😕
I am happy with it being 32 bit.0 -
For me V4.5 Pro Sucks !
I removed it from my computer, and will stay
with the V 3.7.7 Pro for a long time.

I'll keep them both preliminarily.

V3.7.8 for fast selection, tethered shooting and when just few adjustements are to be done (responsiveness of V3 is so much better) and V4.5 when I need lens correction (correction of the Contax 645 lenses is really great) and enhanced color adjustments.0 -
I have trouble keeping the program running long enough to really test it. First couple of times I got an error reporting tool where I could enter what I was doing when the program crashed. Now the error reporting crashes and gives me 'unknown error'.
Luckily I kept 3.7.8 up and running, I'm not very impressed with 4.5Pro.0 -
someone already mentioned this above, but I want to reiterate:
what about levels for each channel?
Am I missing something?
I looked and looked and looked
In 3Pro you can change the levels for each colour
4.5 is an upgrade and they got rid of a fundamental tool! Why?
Otherwise I was pleasantly surprised.
Especially customised hotkeys - thanks for that.
I also agree with enabling us to decide the colour scheme.
3Pro on PC is much nicer to look at than 4.50 -

I agree and though it has been mentioned earlier on both the CO4/Mac and Windows forums here it is good to do it again. For you information, feature requests are best submitted to Phase One through a support case from their web site.
Thanks again.0 -

Amen! Especially with CS4 running 64-bit.0 -

Adoption of x64 on the desktop is very slow, currently somewhere in the 5-10% range of Vista use probably due to limited amount of x64 applications (where is Microsoft's 64-bit Office?) and hardware manufacturers pre-installing Vista x64. Not checked yet, but maybe Microsoft will drop x86 versions of Windows 7. That would be something. Next years Mac OS X 10.6 will be entirely 64-bits up to the kernel. We are moving ahead.0 -

And what would be the benefit of C1 being a 64-bit application?0 -
I thought 64 bit OS's just gives more efficient and greater memory allocation. Won't it really only allow us to use more than 4GB of memory and little else of use?
Not the most earth shatteringly important feature IMO.0 -
Wow, 64 bit support? Come on....what does that have to do with photography? 0
