Since it seems to work ok if you run with administrative privileges, it sounds like it could be a permissions issue - I see a lot of this at work, particularly with Intuit's Quickbooks (blechh).

You neglected to mention your OS but I'll assume it's XP Pro, just because that's where my experience is and XP Home is far too irritating to contemplate. It's also an important distinction as to your user privileges - are you a 'User' or a 'Power User'. The latter grants you Modify rights on the install directory while the former does not (at least on my system it does). I'm going out on a limb and assuming that the program needs to write some data to the install directory on startup and it fails because it lacks the appropriate permissions. I actually tried this under an account with simple 'User' privileges on my system and had similar a result to yours.

Anyways, try the following (you must be logged in as an Administrator):

Double check your privilege level (User or Power User). If you're a member of a domain, you may have to ask your administrator, otherwise, if it's a local machine policy, just click Start | Run | lusrmgr.msc | Enter => then doubleclick your username, then click the 'Member of' tab to see which group(s) you belong to.

Whichever group it is, do the following. Go to Windows Explorer (Win key + E, by default) and browse to the Capture One install directory (C:\\Program Files\\Phase One is the default location). Right click on the Phase One folder, select 'Properties'. Click the 'Security' tab. You'll see a list of groups and usernames - click on the group that you're a member of (ie: COMPUTER_NAME\\USERS) and you will see the permissions for that group in the bottom section of the dialog box. Make sure your group has 'Modify' permissions on the folder (and subfolders/files, by default) - there should be a checkmark in the box beside 'Modify'.
